Nationwide have also now introduced charges for the use of their Debit cards when used in some countries abroad, and it's still cheaper than most, if not all other banks.

    FTFY.

I wish people would stop over-sensationalising this.

How is what the O.P posted sensational??? I for one was unaware of this and am grateful for happening across this useful piece of info.
You being aware of the new charge structure doesn't mean everyone is, does it now???

Far too many egotistic types on this forum of late trying to tell others what they should and shouldn't post

It's still not exactly the cheapest anymore though is it.

You sound a little more brand loyal than money saving. ;)

The fact that you were unaware of this situation until this post indicates that you can't be bothered reading your (snail mail) post. NW have told you this would happen. This was raised on here weeks before that mailing.

Far too many people who read the internet more scrupuously than the information from their banks more like.

This should not be a suprise to you. If it is, you're going to end up on the 'my bank charged me for stuff they said they'd charge me for and I want to claim it back' board.

    My turn to

    1) Why are you referring to BANKS* when NW are a BUILDING SOCIETY? Pay attention, eh? :hello:
    2) Why do you assume a building society of which I am not a member would contact me regarding a change to their T&C's? :rotfl:

This site is about helping others with all aspects of financial affairs. Not shouting down those who attempt to, in good faith, provide helpful hints, tips and advice. So run along and play nicely :)

There's a substantial difference? Not IME. And your comment totally misses the point I was making.

Um - if you're posting (rather than just reading) on a thread about Nationwide without indication that you're not actually a customer, why would I NOT assume you're a customer of theirs?

    ;)

Who is cheaper for withdrawals and for purchases? (Bear in mind the gross exchange rates applied by Mastercard and Visa are not the same.)

Of what concern would it be to you in context to the thread topic???!

You're not making any valid points here, just attempting to defend your earlier snipe at the O.P.

Nationwide is still the cheapest Debit card for use abroad and does not make any charge within Europe.

It would be interesting to see if it really is the cheapest, as the charge might seem cheap on the surface, the exchange rate could be worse.
