I think there will be some need for a time delay for your cheque to clear, possibly complicated by the fact that your Abbey ISA is a postal ISA.
The most important priority, IMHO, is to get your £1600 into an ISA (any ISA) by 5th April 2006. "Use it or lose it!"
Then you can transfer that 2005/6 ISA to another provider at your leisure, with no deadlines to meet

ok so there is no deadline for that Halifax 5% fixed isa?
sorry I forgot to say I also have a normal account with Abbey and was thinking about transferring some money from it to the postal isa, is that quite simple?half scottish half italian :100%moneysaver0 -
That sounds the best way to get the money into your postal ISA ASAP & cleared for the earliest possible transfer. You could discuss with Abbey staff, at the same time, how soon that allowed you to make a transfer.
There could well be a deadline for the Halifax 5% fixed rate account.0 -
