What I am trying to say is, the Lamona, is acutally a Hygena. Confused? I am!

Yes, it's supposed to be a problem due to the collapse of MFI. You can't get parts for them. Interesting that Howdens and MFI were still linked in that respect - the units used to be the same - I think Howdens used to supply MFI rather than the other way around so you'll find a lot of the ranges the same though we're starting to go back two or three years now. The last lot of MFI units wouldn't be the same.

  • Had Howdens round this morning and asked the guy this exact question. I appreciate he is going to try to sell his own product!
He told me that Lamona is mid-top range. Not as good as Bosch, but better than most entry ranges. He assured me aftercare was good, and they used to use 'stoves' but changed to Lamona after a contract dispute. He said the brief for a new contract was that the new supplier had to be equal to, or better than, Stoves.
After reading your comments, this clearly isn't the case, and I think I'll be sourcing my appliances elsewhere.
Going to try find out the hierarchy of kitchen appliances, but will start a new thread so as not to hijack this one!
  • Some of the new Lamona kit is Beko. A search for "spares" + the part number on google often shows up the other makes and model numbers that share the same mechanics underneath the branding. e.g. American SBS Fridge Freezers, gas hobs, dishwashers are Beko. Not sure who makes the ovens. As an own brand however Howdens could easily switch to any other OEM manufacturer.

The Lamona branded stuff looks remarkably similar to the old Diplomat (MFI) range they used to sell. The Diplomat frost free fridge/freezer has had problems noted with the fridge overheating even though the freezer still works, and mine has just done exactly the same thing (XMAS DAY) !!
If I had a choice now i would source my appliances elsewhere or choose the Bosch stuff they now sell.

On a footnote i believe Howdens are usually happy to sell you replacement goods at cost price if the original goods are out of warranty. You can but try!
