Air not a Con

just a quick point, the op said the hose needs to be out of the room you are cooling, which is correct. it shoudl be vented externally though, the emissions from the vent are a breeding ground for legionaires disease amongst other things, do not vent any aircon units into other rooms, only ever externally. it may be that you are venting externally already, but your post isn't clear so thought it worth sharing the advice for you and for others0

In my bedroom there's a small open fireplace. I've always wondered if I could just board the bottom of the chimney so that I can hook a vent pipe to that, so the hot rises up out the chimney?0

I doubt the hot will have enough in it to rise out the chimney.. you might end up with it coming back down again, maybe even as damp. The Head Honcho (does very little work)0

Hi, everyone, I have just spotted a 12,000 BTU Aircon and it's only £115, it's in silver and black and looks pretty good, it does need venting though.
sorry cannot post link but it's on a website called stock2go.net
lets hope the weather bears up!:T0 -
Try to get a look at these things before you buy them. Our aircon at work broke (well, it got knocked over) and we bought a replacement from Homebase.
The drip tray underneath is absolutely useless. It requires lifting up to table height and the bung removing every hour to drain it as it only holds about half a pint.
I wanted one which vents the water out with the hot air but that would be too easy!0 -
The silver more "compact" version of this one fitted better in our room so we took that one currently @ £99, its also remote control and comes with a hose you can attach to the drip plug and then out the window. The Head Honcho (does very little work)0

To drain it you would have to raise the unit above the height of your window, and they are not stable.0 -
mines very stable on a table by a low sash window, so it works out perfectlyThe Head Honcho (does very little work)0
