Switching ISP

I have been with Ukonline for many years now and pay £9.99 a month for igb connection speed of unlimited downloads. Its been fine with no real problems at all, i am looking at changing to a faster connection, UKonline offer 2gb for £14.99 a month but i see lots better than this. I understand getting my mac code, but i have read that no matter who i swap to they will only connect me up at my present speed and i will have to upgrade at a later date...WHY ?, and how much hassle is this. I am not looking for ultra high speeds, i beleive from neighbours that 3.5 gb is the actual speed i will be able to receive, and to be honest i would be more than happy with anything above 1gb. I don't want to change then have to pay again for yet another upgrade.

From my recent experience you will intially get connected at your old speed, and if your new ISP is any good (mine was) they will automatically regrade you in a day or so. If not you will have to ask for it, but it won't cost you anything.0

Your new package will give an estimated speed, most BT Wholesale services are now sold as 'up to 8MBps'. If you sign up for one of these services then you should get the maximum your line will support, which in your case seems to be around 3.5MBps (not GB).
Your current ISP is limiting you to 1MBps but your line will hopefully support more than this.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Have you checked say with SamKnows ADSL mapping to see what they anticipate and WHO could supply you ?

If you can get o2 LLU you'll probably find it's upto 8Mb service a bargain at £3.17-£6.51/month for 1year+ see my other postings for useful link there.0
