Hi,
My garage was broken in to recently and my granddaughters buggy and car seat were stolen.
I put in a claim on my household contents insurance, but today have been told that the car seat is not covered by the policy as it is classed as a car accessory.
I thought i would claim from my car insurance however, the theft took place on May 26th and i changed insurance company on June 10th.
My query is, can i still claim from my previous car insurers even though i am no longer with them?
Hope this makes sense.. thanks.

It won't be worth it financially claiming on your car insurance if it is even covered0

Much as it pains me to say this I agree with the other poster, its not worth claiming for the car seat. I would be as upset as you having this done to you but by the time you pay your excess on your car insurance they wouldn't be paying out very much for the car seat and then your premium would go up. how much did the car seat cost? I know some can cost up to £150 but is it really worth putting up your insurance premium. Unless you have a very low excess, alot of people have £50-£100 EXCESS so I can't see that its worth it. The insurance company have nobody to claim back the money from so its a loss, you aren't claiming against another person's insurance so you won't get your excess back unlike in an accident when it was the other drivers fault.
You said the garage was broken into, if the car seat wasn't in the car then I would have thought its classed as garage contents so covered by contents. If the car was broken into whilst in the garage then surely you have damage such as a broken window to claim for also which would make it more worthwhile. If the car wasn't locked even it if it was in the garage then I wouldn't think they would pay out. Sorry no help I know but I'd just go and get another car seat.0
