I have found one that may be suitiable for some.
    http://www.iii.co.uk/sharedealing/

and from looking at the charges, nothing except charges for trading.
    http://www.iii.co.uk/sharedealing/?type=charges

    Anyone got experience of them?

i use the forums at iii almost every day, they're great for getting a feel for what's going on behind the scenes of a share you're interested in. also some fantastic chartists post there, giving great advice on possible entry/exit points (all dyor of course) and likely trends. There's a particularly helpful/friendly chap on there called Remo that has a sub-board explaining charting theory to people as well as sharing his thoughts. I'm always amazed how right he gets it.

i do see people whinge on the forums about iii's service a fair bit (wide spreads, slow service etc), but i guess this is inevitable for any service. Also i believe iii don't trade shares on the PLUS market, so check that some of your smaller stocks aren't listed there as you may not be able to trade them.

I've already signed up with them, just waiting for my password.

Signed up for the Portfolio Builder and you get a dealing account as well.

They dont charge any fees other than trade fees and I asked about AIM and Small Cap shares and they deal in those as well.

I make good use of the iii discussion boards too. So it makes sense for me to give them a try. Not keen on the TD Waterhouse expensive telephone charges in case I needed to deal urgently - iii charge the same as online.

just looking at the TD Waterhouse charges after the first year:

    http://www.tdwaterhouse.co.uk/typesofaccount/ratecard-full-rates-charges.cfm

    The following seems steep:

Transfers out of stock -£25 per holding
Closure of account - up to £5

So if anyone intends to use it for a year but hold on to shares would be fine - anyone thinking of using the year to find somewhere else to tfr to might not be a happy bunny....

need to see which other ones offer a better choice!

Just had a look at the JP Jenkins website and their dealing costs are £20 a trade. I wonder how long they will be able to keep Sharecrazy traders at £9.95?

JP Jenkins execution only service is currently telephone based so maybe that's why they are looking at making it £9.95 as there would be less overheads.

I'm one of the people thinking of option 3, I only hold shares in one company and I'm wanting to keep them for approx 3 years so don't fancy being tied in to another firm and really don't want the inactivity charge (I have much less than the £5000 that it wants me to have.
  • My previous experience of TD Waterhouse was to buy shares at their recommendatio, then they started these account maintainance fees. they sold my shares with no permission at the bottom of the market to pay off their 'maintaince fee arrears'!!!
    How crooked can you get?

I have about 3k invested with HB and I fancy moving it to Halifax sharebuilder or III Portfolio builder.

Does Halifax allow this and will HB transfer for free to anyone else or only TD Waterhouse?

Also I have a number of AIM and All Share holdings can these be moved to Halifax?

I use TD Waterhouses monthly portfolio builder and i've never had a problem with it. £1.50 per trade and no admin fees as there's more than one trade per quarter.
Total Debt - Too much (will confirm later)
Total Paid off since joining site - NOTHING (so far)
Matched Betting Earnings - £0 yet

Can't find this on their website - sounds interesting. Can you provide a link please?

Same as all the rest of them - £1.50 a month per trade, trades on a fixed day each month (think you can choose between the first Wednesday of the month and the third).

You can also do regular trades within the same account whenever you want, at the full commission rates.
