I'm not sure exactly how useful the Spam button is.
It seems it doesn't 'report' spam, that only seems to happen after the button's been clicked a few (we don't know how many) times. To discourage spammers, they obviously need removing ASAP before anyone's responded to their advert for mobile phones etc.
And you can only 'click' a thread, whereas sometimes spam is in the form of one post in the middle of a thread, the thread as a whole may be fine.
I'll carry on using the 'Report this post' button0 -
I cant get a rate button or spam, checked what you said below but still doenst work, mine was set already as you mentionedMoney_Grabber13579 wrote: »No it's okay for me. Would that not be something to do with your account? If you click on User CP>Edit Options. Then scroll down to date and time options and fix it in there. Assuming that's what the problem is of course!:D
Just for your own reference, My are set at GMT and automatically detect DST settings.0 -

Don't know why they can't just have a standard report post button like most forums where you just have to click it and report is sent. Instead you have to, at least in my case (or anyone else who uses a webmail client), open email client, fill in abuse address, fill in subject line, copy link location, paste into email, THEN send. How come every other forum manages a one click report button?
And I wonder how many people click the report button, have nothing happen and just assume it's been reported, whereas in actual fact it hasn't done anything because they don't have an installed email client, just webmail.0 -
I'm sure MSE have considered this, but at the end of the day, why so much fuss? Yes I know some people abuse the forums and post spam / offensive stuff, but let's face it, they are in a minority and I'm not aware of it being a major issue here.
If it's too much hassle to use the existing arrangements, then don't bother with it, and don't worry about it.If you will the end, you must will the means.0 -
I'm not aware of it being a major issue here.
Unfortunately it did become a major issue a few months ago.
We were getting many attacks by spammers, sometimes posting 40-50 threads all over the boards at a time. Some of these were spamming some very offensive links and sites.
That is the reason why the ban on new posters posting links was implemented.
Obviously that is a solution that works, but it is not really what anyone would prefer.
So it's pretty clear that the MSE team are seeking alternative solutions. This appears to be part of that.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

.
and they were very nasty and offensive:mad:
Most of the 40-50 threads were usually started in the early hours,
reported and deleted before most people noticed them,
And to save the Abuse team getting shed loads of reports, some users "chased the spammers"
across the boards, posting messages, that it was spam and it had been reported.
Some mornings(6am) on the forum main board my name was the last post on every board.
Which could an hour
So anything MSE are doing to help :T
Can I have a Spam button please:cool:

So where's the spam button if we're all supposed to be policing the site?If you will the end, you must will the means.0

At the moment I think only the people who are already testing thebutton on some boards have got it.
As a test, just limited numbers so far I think.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB
