problem with my new dfs sofa

Options
Hi all,

Yesterday my sofa arrived after 3 months. All looked ok until a few hours later my partner noticed that the back of the sofa was out of line (the sofa not against a wall so its highly noticeable).

Anyway the service manager came round this morning (I only called yesterday) and agreed that its out of line but he said that he will check the store demo one as maybe they are supposed to be like that!

He said that if they are like that and the chaise bit on the side where the back is at an angle is supposed to be like that then it does'nt matter if they order a new one because they will all be the same!

Well to me it looks like an obvious fault as the stitching/piping is quite out on that piece (about 5mm).

I told him that if it could be rapaired I am not going to accept a repair on my brand new sofa (I was'nt being funny, just saying in a nice way that it's not really acceptable seeing as its brand new and I have waited 3 months).

I would really appreaciate any advice :)

Cheers

P.S I will take a piccy if anyone is interested and see what you think :)

  • here is a link to the sofa showing both ends:

I would really appreciate some feedback as dfs reckon that the sofa should be like that!

    Cheers

Hi cant seem to see sofa but think i know what you mean..
We got a corner suite from furniture village, waited also 3 months and it came, gorgeous and chuffed to bits until the long part (end) started rucking up, it looked so used by the time we had sat on it for 2 hours that i rung them..they sent a repair man out the next day and i have to say i said the same as you..dont bother!! He tried padding it out with more filling but i assured him ide be back on the phone and i was! we got another 6 weeks later and got to keep the old one..it has done the same but is deff better and unfortunalty a thing it will do due to the size f it and the material..a quick puff out and it is lovely again so hey ho!

Ring them and demand another..repairs should not be allowed imo on a new sofa im assuming cost a fair bit like ours did. Good luck

Hi there - don't think you're link is working - at least I couldn't click on it.

Just wanted to make you aware that there are not very good stories about DFS (try googling or blagger.com) So please be careful. I'm not 100% sure but I think (esp when sofa is new) you can reject the goods within a certain amount of time. Probably best to check out the consumer direct website, which is really good, so that you know your rights, just in case. If you need to phone, they are really helpful.

I'm having sofa probs too, but is 2 years down the line so much more problematic! Good luck with getting it sorted out. :cheesy:

Check out the one in the showroom to see if it's the same as yours (incognito of course).

    It's not right at all.

If you don't get anywhere with DFS then call trading standards who can give you advice on what you can do.
"One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."
  • This has been really stressing me out since yesterday as I am worried that I maybe being too picky but it seems like I am right to question it.

I even said to them that if the sofa was going against a wall it would'nt be such an issue but as its not against a wall and its the first thing you see when entering the room etc etc

Well thankyou all for replying and I will let you know what they say tomorrow.

    Carlos :)

Does look a bit odd, especially comparing the two sides. Consumer direct is linked to trading standards. Think their a kind of gateway to point you in the right direction - advise first - kind of thing. Then they can pass details to your local trading standards. Or, of course, you can contact your local t. standards direct.
