Kwik-Fit Insurance Claim

Options
I passed my driving test on the 7th April 2008 but unfortunately had a small mishap around the 12th July the same year.

I basically reversed into another person's car, which was illegally parked on private property and did some very minor damage really. Nothing more than a dent in the front left wheel arch and some scratching of the paintwork, As my renewal came through this year from the same insurer I thought that around £90.00 was fair considering the collision. However, I've been looking at lowering it, as I'm getting a house (yippee) and pennies will obviously be very tight, and found that I could get it elsewhere for £68 pcm. A saving!

I rang Kwik-Fit just so I could clarify what was happening with the claim as I only received one piece of correspondence in September 2008 asking me to ring a couple of numbers to report my side of the claim, and they were absolutely useless.

Obviously, when you go onto these car comparison websites they ask you if you have any claims and convictions and whatnot but what do I put?

On my insurance documents it says that my own damage costs are nil, the third party claim is nil, the personal injury claim is nil and that the claim is not pending, but that my NCD are prejudiced. When I rang my insurers to clarify what I should put they have told me that only half of the claim is settled as he is now claiming for personal injury, which has angered me so much because he was not even in the car! So, surely on my documents it should say that the claim is still pending? Had I wanted to cancel my policy and renew elsewhere and I had used those details it would have made that insurance invalid, no?

Kwik-Fit also told me that they must have paid out on the other party's insurance, a whopping £3190 (ridiculous) after my renewal, but why haven't I been kept informed? I'm getting so frustrated because now I don't know whether I'm coming or going, if I'm going to have to pay my excess or not (Kwik-Fit told assured me yesterday that my part of the claim was settled and that I don't have to pay anything) but yet the question of why I haven't been informed is still there?

All I want to do is get a quote using the correct details so I can save as much money as possible, but I just seem to be getting nowhere. I don't want to be told that it's settled and then 6 months down the line they expect my excess. I do have the money to pay now as I've been saving for my house, although I will begrudge it greatly, but would rather them tell me sooner rather than later.

Any advice?

  • Because its irrelevent.

You do not have to pay excess. You have 0 claims with a fault claim registered. The value of this claim at this time is £3200.

Kwik fit will contact you as and if they need you further.

Not quite sure why you feel left in limbo as you are not.

To get a quote you need to put down that you had a fault claim, the circumstances and the current value. If it is outstanding you need to disclose that.

If you feel the third party is claiming fraudulently you need to make that clear to Kwikfit and find should ask what they are doing to investigate or repudiate the claim.

I felt in limbo because nobody had told me anything that was going on and when I rang KwikFit they didn't tell me that. This is the first time I have arranged cover for myself and I just wasn't clear on the terms that they use. I was told by a couple of family members that I should have paid my excess, and by others that I shouldn't have. That's all I wanted clarity on and you have now answered my question, which I appreciate greatly, thank you!
