You runners/walkers all make me soo ashamed! What prompted me to come back on here was that I did a really stupid thing last week! I signed a contract for the gym! Not a big deal you might think! but it is not just a gym it's a David Lloyd liesure club - so not cheap - We used to be members when I was married - but I cancelled it when I split nearly 2 years ago - the kids were moaning that we never did anything fun - and I was reminiscing about the fun we had when we were there and I turn 40 next week and desprately don't want to be fat frumpy and forty- So I took them to an open day and bobs you uncle I had rejoined. It is a year minimum contract and I can't see a cooling off period mentioned in the contract! I am so dissapointed with myself! I could just go running!

They don't know about it, she wouldn't let me tell them about it in case they had a go at her. She thinks she can save some money each week from her JA when she gets it, but I've worked out her bills leave her with a deficit to start with. And there's always the hope that she'll get a job by December.
In denial much? lol. (Her btw not you.. lol)

I hope I'm not coming across harsh. I'm on income support myself and know it's not easy as it is let alone having your sister to support too.

No, you're not coming across as harsh, you're saying what I think! She's not really a 'real world' kind of person. Then again she is my sister, and me getting upset because I can't afford my usual trip to Leeds festival because of her isn't on either.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.

The moment you start making sacrifices and get no gratitude for it is the minute you need to rethink making those sacrificies in the first place hun.

Yeah, you're right. I just find it hard to stand up to her, especially since she's the golden girl who can do no wrong in the family's eyes, if I start getting awkward with her then I'll get it in the neck from everyone.

Going to do a new budget today! My finances are out of control at the moment - but I'm scared to write it down![/QUOTE]

Get thee to a pen and paper and sort that budget out! Then go round the house, uproot everything that isn't chained down or essential for life support, and flog it!!!

Perhaps I ought to follow my own advice.....

Hi, strangers opinion coming through! If she has been doing her degree for five years then surely she is at least 23 years old?!! She needs to take responsbility for herself and IMOH you need to let her. If she was very serious about getting a job there is one out there - supermarkets, fruit picking, pubs, call centre's agency work, factories...the list is endless. If she wants to salvage her degree then she needs to get work now and save to fund herself - like the adult she is. While she is constantly being rescued and protected by you she has no need to face reality, the mobile contract is a good example - what is a person who's sister is paying for food whilst on benefits doing on a mobile contract? £85 is taking the mick out of you too!

I know I sound harsh but it sounds like she is taking advantage and you need to stand up to her for your own sake but also for hers. I would start with no more funding: need food? - crisis loan, especially as she will get jsa soon, want holiday? - find the money and pay back deposit, can't afford direct debits? - get a job, any job, don't be picky you will find something better later. As for the family, they see her as the golden girl cos you let them, you saying I can't afford to fund her anymore should be reasonable as she sounds like an able person and you are on benefits....

hope I am taken in the good intention that I mean, my sister was similar and as soon as I stopped funding her she stopped calling - nice gratitude for ya!

I'm using my work time very productively - updating the pricing on my amazon listings. Have 4 boxes of books my friend gave me, made over £100 profit already, but now just want them out of the way...
