Also saw this linked from another car-forum.

He's going to be paying a lot of money to service his Car-Craft finance plan, just so he could buy a French shopping trolley without doing any saving, or looking at offers elsewhere.

  • Honestly, where do these people come from? You couldn't make it up...

Wow, it really is one of those classic threads that will be remembered for a long time. I think this poster (crudely) sums it up:
It's sheer idiocy. I can just see the carcraft salesman fapping one out for weeks at the mere thought of this.

But joking aside, the guy clearly isn't all that bright and he's basically been stitched up like a kipper. When I was 19, the worst that could happen would be that you'd buy a car on HP from a dealer that was at a rate slightly more expensive than a bank loan. Now it seems that these finance companies are finely tuned extortionists, treading a thin legal line and preying on the dim and desperate.

I feel sorry for the poor kid.

Unfortunately!! (though there are the exceptions just to be fair to the sensible ones)

Brought up in a buy now pay later society, he will not be quite so happy in 6 months when he is still paying ALOT and he car has lost it's "just bought" appeal and knowing he cannot sell as his car is worth a 1/3 of what he owes on it.

Given the insidious methods employed by the company, I don't think 'adulthood' offers much protection, especially if you're the type of person who struggles to learn your lesson as he does.

A lot of the dealer finance deals are not much better.. The MINI guy wanter to charge me £3400 interest over 3 years. They should really wear masks. It's the same principle... people think if they can afford the monthly repayment then everything's ok.
