If you check out tesco.com, there are reductions of up to 75%. These, in conjunction with DU, make some things worthwhile, even set against a 'loss' of 2x potential Deal Value.
Shall have a quick look and post link for you.

It's a shame that happened, but it might be worth trying your local car boot sales. I furnished a huge portion of my flat with chairs, tables and some garden furniture from a car boot sale. The whole lot (10 chairs, garden set and dining table with 4 more chairs) came to just under £80. When I looked up the makes and such online the retail value was somewhere in the £500 range because it was all habitat and similar brands.

while its unfortunate you missed the offer most special offer goods do have a date on the sel when the offer expires , so unless you also took the sel to the staff when you asked them to keep it for you it is possible they didnt know the offer was ending.

Again from a Sainsburys point of view, the end date shown on advertising is not definite - whoever decides the prices centrally can, and do occasionally, pull offers at any time despite the end date shown. Mostly this is a good guide though, especially if the date is soon.

Its unlikely the staff would have actually known whether it was ending - knowing how to check seems to be a bit hit and miss unless you happen to find someone who works in price control!
  • I doubt the staff knew the offer was ending, They wouldn't gain anything from not telling you so I'm guessing that came down from management and was done without them knowing.
