Not sure that will be any good, you need a recovery CD and a usb cd drive. i'll take a look around see what i can find......

PS: what options are there when you press safe mode?
might be worth trying a few command prompt commands...........

connect the laptop hard disk to the pc so you can view it

I've put C: below but this will be the drive letter for the laptop hard disk when connected
    1. Open one of these folders to locate a Snapshot subfolder. The following path is an example of a folder path to the Snapshot folder:
      C:\System Volume Information\_restore{D86480E3-73EF-47BC-A0EB-A81BE6EE3ED8}\RP1\Snapshot
    1. From the Snapshot folder, copy the following files to the C:\Windows\Tmp folder (you may need to create that folder
      ) :
    2. _REGISTRY_USER_.DEFAULT
    • _REGISTRY_MACHINE_SECURITY
    • _REGISTRY_MACHINE_SOFTWARE
    • _REGISTRY_MACHINE_SYSTEM
    • _REGISTRY_MACHINE_SAM
    1. Rename the files in the C:\Windows\Tmp folder as follows:
    2. Rename _REGISTRY_USER_.DEFAULT to DEFAULT
    • Rename _REGISTRY_MACHINE_SECURITY to SECURITY
    • Rename _REGISTRY_MACHINE_SOFTWARE to SOFTWARE
    • Rename _REGISTRY_MACHINE_SYSTEM to SYSTEM
    • Rename _REGISTRY_MACHINE_SAM to SAM
These files are the backed up registry files from System Restore

I've put C: below but this will be the drive letter for the laptop hard disk when connected

    rename c:\windows\system32\config\system to system.old
    rename c:\windows\system32\config\software to software.old
    rename c:\windows\system32\config\sam to sam.old
    rename c:\windows\system32\config\security to security.old
    rename c:\windows\system32\config\default to default.old

    copy c:\windows\tmp\system c:\windows\system32\config\system
    copy c:\windows\tmp\software c:\windows\system32\config\software
    copy c:\windows\tmp\sam c:\windows\system32\config\sam
    copy c:\windows\tmp\security c:\windows\system32\config\security
    copy c:\windows\tmp\default c:\windows\system32\config\default

replace the hard disk in the Laptop and it should boot from the restore point chosen

If you plug the hard drive in the the USB connector and attach it to the PC it should show up with a drive letter on that drive right click go to properties, tools and run a checkdisk (tick both options) once that has run do a defrag then try it back in the laptop.

If you are getting a burning smell from the laptop it could be the fan nor spinning as its clogged full of dues or it could be that the motherboard is on its way out.
