is tehre a WiFi router to be used with a USB dongle?

I have a USB dongle (with a SIM) for light internet access, but I want to connect to it a small netowrk. (say network consists of 2 laptops, a PC and a WiFi Printer)

Is there a "cheap" router that can do the job?

thanks

never had any problems with it and has two pc's, wii, dsi and playstation 3 networked to it and used in a semi-detatched house.

.. I dont think I can connect to the internet using a USB dongle though...
I dont have a Broadband connection therefore have to rely on a T-Mobile dongle.

You are referring to mobile broadband through a dongle if I understand corrrectly. You don't want a wireless router, you want a 'mobile' router that connects to the T-Mobile network and then re-transmits by Wi-Fi to your local network.
Effectively these enable you to share your mobile broadband connection on a network but with only one SIM. Basically you put the SIM card into the router instead of into the dongle. I think CPW are marketing these, but at present I can't think who the manufacturer is.

Now I can , it was 3, not CPW. Something like this-you just plug your dongle in, you don't have to transfer the SIM card. Costs about £50.

would you know whether this will work with a T Mobile or O2 Dongle?
  • Is there some some way that you can plug it into 1 computer and then set up that computer as an access point, so that provided all other computers are wireless, they will be able to connect off it? I thought I read that somewhere...

I would imagine the 3 ones are locked to 3? But you don't have to buy it from 3, it was just the first link I found for it.
It may be just the SIMS that are locked to the network.

The computer that is connected to the internet can allow other computers on the same local network to access the internet. If the other computers are wireless then the main computer will need a wireless network adaptor too which will need to be configured for adhoc access (it will be a wireless server). A bit of googling will get this going.

If the main computer is running Windows XP or Vista, google for Windows ICS (Internet Connection Sharing). If the main computer is running Linux or is a Mac, you can configure it to be a router.

The OP doesn't have an ADSL line. He is trying to connect his network to the mobile broadband network (rather than just one laptop via his dongle).
