12 Month Sky Cancellation Ban B4 Rejoining

Does anyone know of Sky banning you for 12 months if you cancel your contract, to rejoin and want to take advantage of a free Sky HD Box offered with a TV I bought.
3 weeks ago I bought a 32" LCD Technika TV from Tesco Direct c/w free Freeview and free Sky HD Box when you join Sky. After contacting Sky for the free HD box they said I must keep my old Sky+ box on a Multi-room deal, even though I only have one TV & Room in my flat. Sky said the free HD box offer only really appled to new subscribers, so I suggested cancelling my contract with them after nearly 6 years, rejoin one month later and become a new subscriber. However, Sky's (4/5 employees) response was that I could not rejoin Sky for 12 months if I did this, but they couldn't show me where this ruling was written either in my or their contract / policies. I believe Sky are just using this "unwritten policy" to con existing customers out of extra cash, it's a 'rip-off'.

It's not a ban. You can re-subscribe at any time. But you won't get a "new subscriber" deal.0

Thanks for that Moneymaker, but the free HD box offer came with the TV purchased from Tesco. Sky put obsticles in the way to force me into "multi-room" contract and paying more for something I can't use (aging Sky+ box) and don't have (2nd TV & room).
Sky say that as an existing subscriber (not bound by any contract restrictions) I can't give them a month's notice to cancel and sign-up as a new subsciber or anyone from my address for a period of 12 months - which is not stipulated in any of Sky's contract policies & procedures supplied to me first in 2003 and then in 2007 when I upgraded to Sky+ or available from them if they amended such contract conditions, it's only hearsay!!0 -
I have been with Sky for 9 years with a single digibox. Less than 2 years ago (19 months to be exact) decided to get a Sky + box and all seemed fine until a month ago when all of the programmes in the planner where erased and I couldnt record.
I phoned Sky and after waiting 14 mins on an 0870 number was told the hard disk had failed which was quite common and would need an engineer to call out to the tune of £65.
I queried the cause of the hard disk failure but didnt receive a sensible answer.
The box I have been given is obviously reconditioned as the flap at the front is loose and all I get is a 3 month warranty with it.
When I phoned Customer Service to voice my complaint about paying £65 for a second hand box when they were giving brand new ones to new customers their laid back answer seemed to be saying 'tough thats life.
I then threatened to cancel and order as a new customer but was told my address would be barred from getting another Sky contract.
This sounds like being held to ransom and something the Government should be taking action about.
My advice is go for a Freeview box as at least you can buy one from most large outlets without having to deal with Sky and their greed for more and more money from existing customers.0 -

Existing customers can get deals on Sky+ HD without having to take multiroom. I thought with a new TV tesco were doing a free box with £30 installation.
As an existing customer you can upgrade on their website for £49 plus £30 installation and get a months free HD (worth £10).I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
