My relative has run an old rover for 12 months on her BMW's insurance, the rover is in her Dads name and is not insured in it's own right. She has been pulled up once because it isn't on the insurance database but once the police checked her name and address and found out she was insured they just mentioned that it wasn't insured while it was parked up.

Why a car needs to be insured when it is parked?
Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.

The hand brake could fail or not be put on and the car rolls into another car, house or person which happens more than you would think. The way it is parked could contribute towards an accident. It could catch fire and the fire set fire to cars or houses around it etc.

Because it could still cause damage to someone. It could leak and cause damage. The handbreak could fail and it move into something causeing damage. If it isn't insured and parked up, it could then be seized and crushed. The owner could be convicted.
