Driving Car on Third Party Insurance

Options
Ok

This is my plan I own 3 cars all in my name. My Seat has just come up for renewal I use it very rarely only for the dogs mile to beach and back.

Anyway I was going to place ownership on the V5 to my husband. I have 3rd Party from my other cars to cover usage. My husband will not be driving the car at all. It is newly Taxed for the year and MOT'd.

I hope I am right in my thinking that I will only need to reinsure it when my tax is due for renewal ie this time next year.

Can anyone clarify that for me many thanks in advance

The SEAT needs to have insurance in its own right as well for the 3rd party coverage from other drivers to be allowed.

Sorry, its a non starter as far as i know.

Check your insurance but it usually says any vehicle owned and insured by another person.

ok says on my other policy

"the policyholder may also drive with the consent of the owner thereof a motor car which does not belog to him and is not hired under bla bla bla " states nothing about the owner insuring the car?

Where do you park it when you go to the beach?
If you go from driveway to private beach parking you might be ok.
But if you leave the car on a public road then it won't be insured.
You might be insured to drive it, but when you are not driving it, then it won't be insured so cannot be on the public road.

Would it not be moneysaving to get rid of at least one of your cars?
    We've jsut gone from 2 to 1.
There are savings on tax, MOT, servicing, repairs etc.

the car is parked on a private lane and driven to a private carpark. The car is only worth £200 if even that but it is handy for the dogs. I would walk it but our neighbours have very vicious dogs hence I don not want to walk past them on my own at the moment if I do walk them I go past with a neighbour for extra protection stupid real but thats life.

My insurance company have said 3rd Insurancewill not be covered for fire or theft etc only for the other persons damage fair enough I dont care if this car gets written off it will die soon anyway.

I have just paid £195.00 to tax it.

I think you need to be very careful here.
If you transfer the car to your husband it means he is the registered keeper.
As you are married and he wouldn't drive it then I'd say you were at least joint owners.
My point being that the registered keeper is not necessarily the same as the owner.

I personally wouldn't want to do it without confirmation from the insurer and my guess will be that their answer will be no when they find out what you are actually trying to do.

The insurance companies have mainly closed this loophole, so check your certificate to make sure yours hasn't!

They have closed it by only allowing you to drive (TPO) cars not owned by you or your partner.

Also, you may want to keep the insurance certificate in the car with you. As the car won't be showing on the Motor Insurance Database, plod will pull you over as soon as you go past one of their ANPR cameras. You'd have to get used to being pulled over often if you did this!

where we are the middle of nowhere (the country) you are lucky to see the police. They are only around one night a week (friday) and thats 5 miles away in the nearest village, they hang out there for 3 hours and all go home. We have no speed cameras or anything like that here no traffic lights etc its great really
