Will be in damascus for 5 months. What is the most cost effective way of accessing my money. I have heard it is very expensive to use a debit card (HBOS) .

Nationwide debit card. There's plenty of ATM's in Damascus. Great place with lovely people. Syria is a lovely place and if you're there for five months you should get time to see most of it. Palmyra, Hama and Aleppo are a must!0
