I have just found some old flour and bread mixes - i doubt the breadmix will be any good - but how past BB date would you use flour? (BB 06/2004)My instinct was to chuck - but trying a bit of a storecupboard challenge.
Thanks

I would be wary of using it, especially as flour is so cheap to buy. I accidently left some out-of-date flour in my cupboard once and ended up with weevils everywhere. Urg!0

Don't suppose you feel like doing some papier mache???? I used to mix flour paste half and half with pva glue and it worked really well - that was in the days when I had time to make stuff. Used to sell it too - now those really were the days - that would be my dream, to have enough money to spend my entire time making papier mache even if no-one wanted to buy it. It is so soothingGrocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

Thanks - it's in the bin again! (mind you is there much protein in weevils?!)
papier mache sounds fun - but time poor!0 -
Do you use flour for home made play-doh? I remember making this with the kids when they were young, but I cant remember what went into it, I remember using salt, cooking oil and food colouring, but cant remember if we used flour as well. My memory is getting worse.Irrelevent in anyway now, as you've thrown it out

I'd use it, if it has weevils you'll instantly see them when you open the packet.
I remember a girl at work eating her cereal, not paid enough attention when pouring it out and only noticed the weevils doing back stroke in her milk halfway through eating it....wasn't a pretty sight!! It was a freshly opened back of cereal....0 -
You could mix it with used cooking oil and seeds and make you own "fat balls" for the birds.... that is if you have a garden.

Its the same with fruit - There is nothing worse than finding a maggot in your apple, except finding half a maggot in your apple:eek:The quicker you fall behind, the longer you have to catch up...0 -
The flour would probably be infested with mites and should not be consumed.
Don't click on the blue link if you don't want to see creepy crawlies. ........this link has information about flour mites.
Flour weevils are much bigger than flour mites and are usually only found in wheat as it arrives at the flour mill.;)
Many a time I wrote REJECT on the QC Laboratory testing forms (due to wheat infestation) when I worked in a flour mill.10 Dec 2007 - Led Zeppelin - I was there. :j :cool2: I wear my 50 (gold/red/white) blood donations pin badge with pride. Give blood, save a life. 0 -
I recommend the Play Dough too, I shall be making tons of this stuff next week, it keeps the kids amused for ages.
