yes, please come over to the DFW board :)

we can help you with sorting your budget and how to put a plan together to pay it back.

It doesn't matter how bad you think you situation is, nobody will judge and I can just about guarantee there are going to be people who have been in much worse situations who are now on the road to clearing their debt or have become debt free already.

It's hard work, will probably mean sacrifices and will mean lifestyle changes in a big way over a period of time but it is worth it - not least to regain your sanity and get a good night's sleep.

Thanks for that milfordmadness. It is now clear.

Does the original poster deserve you and the other looney tune taking the mickey out of their situation?

This is the reason I suggested you switch to the Debt Free Wannabe board.

Some people who post on these boards are little more than self righteous toads!
Sorry I was not being self righteous, I passed on a perfectly legitimate example of how to nip the problem in the bud for the OP and I was not being nasty or anything like that. ;)

And well done to NID and his "children of anarchy" for managing to ruin yet another thread.
Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.

  • Yep, great advice above. I used to love spending but now I love saving. It is very comforting to have money available to spend. My dad used to say spend away but it will take longer to pay off than to spend. I never really enjoyed my spend purchases for long anyway. Top tips, be thrifty spending - high streets do great bargains for less. Cut your cards up. Sell the stuff you dont want on ebay and every £50 in paypal send to your account. Finally, call your credit cards and speak re interest and ask if they will help you with a payment plan which doesnt mean every penny you are spending is just covering interest.

Finally, try not to worry. You will get out of this if you can just work out why you are spending so much. Hunt around for what you love on ebay and pay a fraction for second hand. A quick wizz in the wash and they are as good as new.

Good luck and I hope all starts to sort out for you very soon.

The only bummer with eBay and the like is that you're really pawning your gear that you got into debt for, at a loss, just to repay the original debt in the first place!

The most that eBay sales will do is pay the interest - its really not viable unless you have £1000's of branded gear..... It is a good idea to sell some stuff but then again, it'd be easier to just stop paying - period.

However, thats not to say it's right or best for the OP - just what i'd consider but then i'd take on the lenders cos they almost always make mistakes, to be fair to them.

  • Yep, you are right there but I balance selling good stuff for less with getting good stuff for less and it helps me still spend in the month but for much less than I did. I feel even better if I pay for a new top with my paypal funds :T

I was like you. I loved spending but I just ripped up my cards and used the wardrobe I had. I still love spending but it is all in moderation although my husband would probably disagree. My sis and I were in a real mess at one point and dad refused to bail us saying he would help with a spending plan only to pay it back. It is hard but you will get out of this and I hope it happens sooner rather than later.

Could you take a long period loan out for a fixed amount per month and put your credit cards onto it? I did this and it helped. I can honestly say I would never have a credit card again as I still dont trust myself but I am also debt free after many years of scraping the barrel.

What do you love spending on? What would you find hard to give up?
  • Sorry, to be nosy. I just had a clothes obsession :-) I really hope all sorts soon for you.
