Easter School Hols...whats the cost?

We normally do a trip to the local museum and also the library. We always have a craft day, a baking day, a board games day and various walks and bikes rides. To do the attractions near us would cost a fortune so we normally do one in the summer and thats it.0

DD has gone off to the cinema with her friend with £10 in her purse, a bottle of coke and some sweets (I can't afford cinema sweet/drink prices) and there'll be enough left over for a McChicken sandwich meal....she is beside herself with excitement at the thought of cinema/McDonalds. The rest of the hols will be visiting friends and family we don't see often, a baking day and a few visits to the local country park I expect, and most likely a 'girly night' consisting of junk food, DVD and manicures!0

well we have just been to the park for 2 hours, cost nothing, kids had a ball and are now eating their lunch and worn out!!
just another 2 weeks to fill now!

My DDs broke up yesterday - and not back unitl 24th. next week I am at our company's training centre in London for some study - accomodation and food provided and the DDS will be coming with me as there is childcare laid on free! So no cost there, as even the travel will be paid for.In my free time I will be able to tkae the DDs to such things as the free London attractions. The following week will be spend locally - doing all the free things - railway museaum, royal armouries, walking in the dales - all of these the only cost being the deisel and the pack ups that we take with us!!0

I always feel really guilty, me and OH work and the kids dad works too - so i feel awful packing them off to grandmas (which they say is boring) etc......OH's oldest son may do a couple fo hours in our shop so it will take the pressure off me having to be there all the time - i find hols from school extremely stressful as sorting out the childcare is all down to me and a pain - i really wish i was in a position where i could take the time off and i really envy people who can/do as i feel im missing out big time.Focusing on clearing the credit cards in 2018 :T0

My little ( well not quite so little ) darling ( again term used loosely as she is now 12 ) anyway she is dancing in a show in London on Tuesday. So my Mum and I are going down with her - almost paid for everything now and only need spending money so should be alright. We are staying for a few days so we will be off to see the sights too. I am off work next week too so I am really looking forward to a week off work myself. The following week she is at a hockey 'thing' one day that is already paid for so I only have 3 days to occupy her. If I had my way that would be 1 day cleaning her bedroom, 1 day cleaning her play room and 1 day clearing up the rest of her mess in the rest of the house
dont think that will ever get done though

Its not easy having to work and having that feeling Dottyanne, but if like you say you involve them a bit in what you are doing then even a little is good. Try to make the most of the weekends or days not working to do the free things..like playing ball in the park, bike rides or walking etc.
My easter hols are going ok, not as money stretching as I had thought (so far anyway). Older boy has been practicing his golf and has also played alot with his younger brother too allowing me to work (from home). Next week could be a bit trying though as tennis camp is back on for both! still I have to work so I feel it is still cost effective, and I pack them up for lunchtime so thats a saving...although eldest has now told me that when he goes back to school he wants school dinners !Official DFW Nerd - Member no. 045
Total debts ???***
Well I think they are going down, only time, a divorce, selling up & moving on will tell !!
Forever optomistic.... Positive thinking.0 -
oh sorry dottyanne - my post seems a bit insensitive after yours. Is there anyway that instead of your family looking after the kids they can look after the shop and you go out for the day with the kids ?? I know what you mean though about missing out on the kids....I am normally at work all the time and miss so much of what my daughter does but I cant be everywhere and she would not get to do the things she does if I didnt work. She has to understand that and most of the time she does but sometimes she plays the guilt card but thats just kids:cool: Official DFW Nerd Club Member #37 Debt free Feb 07 :cool:0

I have 16 almost 17 year old boy off school and daughter home from uni. I am a TA so off as well for two weeks. My son sleeps half the day and plays on the computer the rest of the time. Daughter really bored and restless but does sudoku most of the time and watches films on filmflex. Cant think of much to do except go window shopping. Have no money for activities. Did this area to death with walks & museums etc when kids young and am now really bored with it.The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0

Mine have been to two free museum Easter, activities, a couple of tennis lessons and they've bought the Narnia DVD with their pocket money from their grandmother.
We've seen friends and done cooking and sorting out bedrooms. I've worked three days this week so we've muddled through as usual.
I'm only working one day next week and they will be getting one Easter Egg each and going to a family tea on Easter Sunday with cousins, aunties etc.
Where are the Easter smilies then???A minute at the till, a lifetime on the bill.
Nothing tastes as good as being slim feels.
one life, live it!0
