my kids just broke up form school today!.....they will have to make do with playing out (free), going to friends to play (free) having friends over (free) and playing with the millions of toys that they have (free). All sounds great except for the food bill!!!!!! will cost me a fortune, really gonna have to get the cookery book out!!!!.

I actually prefer taking my children out to do different things- it beats letting them play outside, or get bored at home and start arguing. We will be having some days at home as I have an assignment due, but I would much rather be out and about.
They also have dance club, kung -fu as normal, brownies doesn't run during school hols unfortunately

i intend on paying out as little as possible, arranged lots of play dates with friends and home, will paint, glue, draw, get out in the garden and do some gardening with the kiddies, go to the park, visit grandma, instead of going to cinema have borrowed nanny mcphee from a friend so will have a film afternoon at home.

I plan one trip this week to salsy forest, just petrol money to get there which won't be much, go for a tree top walk and a picnic.

    thats about it for us!

We've got a nature walk planned - free (got some lovely bits and bobs from a company to help us spot different leaves etc)

Trip to the local farm - free

Trips to Crystal palace park to feed ducks and let them rollerblade for a bit - free

Trip to the cinema - around £25 pound for the three of us I think (not sure if the VUE bogofs are still going on) - bringing pack of 3 apple juice from Asda 58p and a pack of jumbo snackajacks £1

Morning or afternoon baking cakes - £2 dora the explorer mix and cake cases

A few relatives have offered to take the two older girls for a day here and there.

I think the other days will just have to be boring, printed out sums/colouring/counting sheets and a few DVDs.

Normally i plan lots of things for the children to do but this is always one of the worst holidays as i have both my boys birthdays to pay for this month (its actually one of their birtdays tomorrow) plus easter.

But since finding here and having my lightbulb moment i am trying to do it all as cheap but as fun as possible. I have paid out to take them all to the cinema tomorrow but thats a birthday treat. We have been to the library and will continue to do so, plenty of baking and games planned and a few local trips to the parks and woods. Also hoping to do a cheap trip up to London to the science museum, with packed lunches should cost about £10 for the day.
Also looking around to see if there is anything planned locally which will be free as there are often fundays planned by the council etc.

So hoping this holiday won't cost me too much, fingers crossed :D

I think it's good for children to play outside in the sunshine and it's free. We have a large garden with play equiptment in it. They can play with pay dough or paint, make nature trails, do easter egg hunts and have friends over. All in the safety of our own garden.

    Hi
My two are away at Uni(hooooray!!) now but I really dont remember holidays costing me much more money than when they were at school!
I was a single parent for a lot of years and we used to just go to the park, visit friends or the kids played out with their friends on the estate where we live.

My son will be coming home for Easter but he has some casual work lined up---- he will cost me a bit more in food but it is different now he is older as he eats out with his mates/girlfriend for a lot of his meals!

Mine won't be 'home alone' with board games, I'll be playing them with them!

I work but luckily I only work a Friday and Saturday so I only need to book one day off work.

The British Museum has a week of free activities for families (organised by a Native American Indian) and a free 'Michelangelo Mega Draw' activities day on 22 April. They also have free family trails and activities backpacks available for use at any time. One of the best things about the BM is that families are allowed to eat HM picnics in the Ford Centre for Young Visitors - most museums expect that you eat food from their overpriced cafes.
