i think that the benefit system should help them through this free month .. or that instead of 1 month completly free it should be 1 week of your wage for 4 months

They arent being asked to forgo pay for one month as such , its an amount to be spread over a few months

If they dont llike it go and work for someone else.
If they cannot get a job elsewhere then they have found the true value of their labour.
  • Hi
I work for a small heating maintenance company as a service engineer we had a meeting to discuss reduced amount of work coming in .Decided to reduce contracted minimum hours, when work ran out each day sent home but on unpaid leave. Am due to go on holiday August/September now tell me this will be unpaid leave also. this holiday was booked in last July, can they do this, I am worried if I hold out for holiday pay they might make me redundant

Why should I work for nothing, a contract exists between employer and employee whereby I agree to sell my labour to my employer at an agreed rate.

Why don't BA lose the staff who aren't performing as based on thier previous appraisals.

Employment law restricts their ability to act. BA is still very unionised. One of the few remaining bastions. All historic working practices that the Unions don't want changed.

Holiday pay is an accrued entitlement.

Asking for ones entitlements is not a justifiable cause for redundancy.

Put your concerns in writing to the Company , don't rely on verbal statements.

It sounds as if your Company is in trouble. I would suggest you ask them to be truthful and realistic with you. To earn some money is better than none at all. With co-operation on both sides from both employees and management the Company may well pull through as the economy improves.
