BA ask 40,000 staff to work for nothing.

No I admit I have not researched the subject, better things to do.You haven't really researched before posting have you?
Firstly BA have never really 'coined' it in of late. Last year they paid a dividend for the first time in TEN years. And it wasn't a big dividend. Last year's profit was thir highest ever but it was short-lived (and in fact lots of staff did receive bonuses).
Your other point about the big earners taking a hit in salary. They already have - they were the ones who set the example in the first place.
Good grief.
It's easy for the higher earners to take a hit but they are asking Joe Bloggs to work for nothing, times are hard for everyone now, these people have mortgages/rent to pay and have to provide for their families. We are not talking a cut, they want them to work for fk all.
I came in to this world with nothing and I've still got most of it left. :rolleyes:0 -
How is working 4 weeks unpaid any different form taking a 10% pay cut...except if you take the pay cut then your salary next year is also 10% lower?
Edit for RB: I think the BBC article suggests the free days are spread over 3 or 6 months rather than being a single hit to salary.bo_drinker wrote: »No I admit I have not researched the subject, better things to do.

Surely it's about cashflow, i.e. no money coming in for 2 months. You have a mortgage etc this will quickly eat into any savings, either that or live on tick."An arrogant and self-righteous Guardian reading tvv@t".
!!!!!! is all that about?0 -
Exactly, you beat me to it. Also many people live week to week and if it means living on tick then surely that is part of the problem why the country is in the mess it's in. C C debt etc, it will just add to it for the sake of keeping BA alive.robin_banks wrote: »Surely it's about cashflow, i.e. no money coming in for 2 months. As someone who is going through something similar at work, i sympathise with the BA staff. It's like someone saying to you..."I can offer you a chinese burn once a week, every week for 6 months, OR give you a massive boot in the b@lls"
Either way you're going to get pain,"For those who understand, no explanation is necessary. Those who don't understand, dont matter."0 -

Smaller companies losing a lot less on a daily basis are wound up. Didn't Virgin recently announce good profits.... in a recession.

It beats me how companys can lose this sort of money, someone is bank rolling them, how can the top brass sleep at nights, they are obviously not doing something right !!!!!!.I came in to this world with nothing and I've still got most of it left. :rolleyes:0 -
I know a couple who both work for BA, they whilst worried by this thought it was far preferably to one or both of them being axed.
The worrying thing for all the staff is this is a short term fix -whats going to happen to lots of the airlines / holiday companies etc in the long run? Although I guess that applies to nearly all jobs / areas at the moment
Looking for the perfect home and saving to make becoming a MFW easier

I would take the 1 month unpaid leave option..............and look for another job offered by an employer who could afford to pay the wage bill.I came in to this world with nothing and I've still got most of it left. :rolleyes:0
