Playstation 3 light of doom

Hello,

My playstation 3 has stopped working. I have had it for nearly two years (60 gb version). The red light flashes and nothing happen, have to turn it off. SONY say they will take it off me and give me a refurbished one for £150.00. Obviously, this is not great, so I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem and maybe achieved a different resolution? e.g. taken it to a local shop or something like that, for it to be repaired.

Thanks in advance.

I heard somewhere that it was down to the 60GB having some problems with overheating. If the components inside haven't melted or such, it may well be possible to repair it

I have done a search it Google and it may help if you take the hard drive out then turn the unit on, turn it off then put the hard drive back in it may cure the problem, give it a go and let us know if it works.

yes, but you loose all the data on the drive as the ps3 will ask you to format it when you next start the console up. there isn't a way of getting around it

Best way to get your PS3 replaced if it needs it is to sign up for 'sony continuous play' (google it), which is like an extended warranty, costs £4.99 a month. If it breaks they'll send a courier out to swap for a refurb one there and then next day. But there's nothing to say you can't just sign up after its broken, then cancel after they've sent the new one out.

It doesn't work anyway and I would rather try that then spend £150 to repair it but then again that is up to the OP

Hi I was just reading your post as my sons ps3 has developed the same fault and sony want 150 pounds to swap it for a refurb on. We paid nearly 600 pound for my sons so I am going to try to fight this all the way. Can you tell me if you have had any joy? regards

if it was a 60gb model, that may be that cheapeast that you are going to get one for as the 60gb was discontined and has more features than the newer models

Continuous Play has now been discontinued because of guys taking advantage of the terms & conditions, like some buying faulty PS3's on ebay & then signing up to get them fixed for £4.99............
What if the Hokey Pokey really is what it's all about !!!
