How many blokes frequent Old Style?

I realise this is much more a 'discussion thread' than an Old Style one, but since there's little point in asking this outside the Old Style user base, I'd be greatful if a little leeway could be used for a wee while? It could be moved or even deleted thereafter?

I'm interested to know:

How many males frequent or actively use the Old Style board?

Of the males who do, how many have chief or sole responsibility for shopping (whether by choice or circumstance) and meal planning/cooking and how many share with their OH?

For the record, my OH doesn't come on here, but he does do the shopping and cooking fairly frequently. He's not great at budgets but will happily buy stuff to throw together whatever he fancies making. He has been known to look on the internet for recipes etc.

I would say the shopping/cooking is shared pretty equally.

Thanks in advance for any male replies. :)

    Hello!

I do, but I'm a lurker more than a poster. All cooking / shopping / meal planning is shared between me and OH.

Is this like "How many sweets are in the jar"? I guess ... 208.

    Do I get a prize if I'm right :j ?

The shopping is far more varied, interesting, and cheaper when I am involved. It also takes 2-3 times as long. Sadly, I am normally at work so it doesn't happen very often. I normally prepare family meals whenever they take place (infrequently - usually they are self sufficient). That is to say, I cook what I want but makes loads of it. I always do parties.

I am not a regular in here - I was just attracted by the topic and a chance to post a flippant remark. I shall take a look around now I am here.

Hey! This place isn't flippant! Eating is more important than saving money... therefore it is a very serious subject. :D

  • I'm more of a DIY board visitor myself but I do occasionally slip in here. I tend to hold more old fashoined ideas about cleaning than my OH where she will buy "master tendon kitchen spray with added vinegar!!" I will just use whatever works. Always been brought up that boiling water is the best cleaner and bicarb for fridges etc.

More my mums influence I think. I have had huge arguments with partners about rinsing of dishes where I have offered to rinse them in a clean basin then make a cup of coffee for them with the water that comes off. Noone has ever taken me up on that.

I dont do as much cooking as I would like but thats because I work shifts and am home later than the OH. She would rather cook than wait til 10pm to eat. I try to cook though at least twice a week and I do the washing in the mornings once she's off to work so it works out fair.

Hi, my OH does frequent this site, but doesnt post, infact it was him that regestered me. We sit down once a week and discuss the meal plans and shopping, if we dont need a lot, he will do the shopping himself, as he has a bus pass for travelling to work, so saves money on busfares. If we need quite a bit of shopping, we go together and my bro-in-law picks us up,( returning the favours we do for him, picking my niece up from school a few times a week)
I dont work, but my OH works in town, and often shops in the market in his lunch breaks, and can probably spot a bargain better than me now :rotfl:
I also rope the kids in with the meal planning, and cooking, so hopefully they are learning valuable life skills, also we get a more varied menu as well.
