Lovely house - next to potential development

Odd question. If you found a lovely house but then discovered plans to extend a tesco site next to the garden fence would you forget it or try and get a good offer?

They vendors said the extension was heading in the other direction, we've checked the plans and it's actually coming parallel to the house with a fairly drastic change to the view out of their window.

Thing is that we love the house and the area, all the other places come and go so quickly as they're on the far side of the estate. This one is up for £299,000, and the development is not guaranteed and some locals reckon it's not going to happen.

What would you do in this situation? Not touch it at all? consider it but at a lower asking price?

Depends whether you want to live next to a Tescos or not? £299K sounds like a hell of a lot - would have to be an amazing house for me to take the risk!

    Leave well alone.
Friend of mine is trying to move at the moment because of the noise from the supermarket next door. The sound of trolleys being collected and pushed across the car park is horrible when you can't escape from it. Together with car radios and boy racers gathering at night.

can you image those summer months, sitting in the garden.. glass of Pimms..

and the relaxing sound of shoppers doing the weekly grocery run..

Yep, you're all absolutely correct. I'm getting all romantic over the house without really thinking straight. Lets face it I live on a main road at the moment and it drives me bonkers, I'm not going to get any improvement if I move there.

And I suppose whether or not they do extend or not, we've still got to consider the fact that this application has been looming for 3 years, if we needed to sell for any reason we're going to be in the same boat

You need a big dose of reality when looking at any house with potentially 'difficult' neighbours.

Think you've just had it !! Walk away, unless you're one of the few thats immune to noise / disruption etc.

as the others have said - imagine the noise - 24 hours a day

There will be deliveries through the night/early mornings, kids gathering in the car parks at night. You'd never be able to relax in the garden and enjoy some peace and quiet - it would be like living in the car park  There are many things I could put with but living next to a supermarket is not one of them.

They vendors said the extension was heading in the other direction,
Convenient for them to say that!

    Ask yourself the following question

Why do you think the vendors are selling?

I once lived near a 24 hour tescos. Excellent when I ran out of milk or something. However we soon tired of the constant noise, headlights, but worse than all of that was the smell of the petrol fumes not only from all the cars and late night lorrys but from the Tesco petrol station when the wind was in our direction.

Think very carefully before you do anything.
