Hi,
Just thought I would come along and add my 2pence worth :-) I have worked for a cartridge company supplying all brands for the past 13 years. I would advise that you will end up paying higher prices for HP & Lexmark & Brother cartridges.
There are several patents that stop people manufacturing the cartridge shells which means all compatible HP cartridges are old originals that have been electronically cleaned, refilled and re-labeled. This process costs a hell of a lot more than it does to create for example a brand new set of Epson compatibles.
Dell printers are just lexmark printers that are rebadged.
Canon cartridges are similar. At one point you needed to have a genuine canon chip for it to work. This involved removing old chips from genuine cartridges and sticking them to new compatibles that were supplied - without chips but with the tools to transfer them!!! Talk about fiddly!!
Fortunately now - slowly, compatible manufacturers are finding ways of creating canon chipped cartridges but are not as cheap as the chip-free ones.
The cheapest printers for compatible cartridges are by far Epson.
Back to your original question - I would advise you to use a printer that uses any of the following cartridges.
T0801 - T0806 range
T0711 - T0714 range
To be honest even the genuine Epson cartridges last a long time. However I would advise you to purchase a chip resetter as Epson cartridges stop printing when there is still over 10% ink left in them, so that the quality always remains high. However I'd rather get more ink out!! The cartridges supplied with Epson printers have a very low capacity are are pretty much 'trial' cartridges. So don't be surprised if they run out quickly.
I personally have an Epson printer that takes the T0481 to T0486 cartridges and it has always worked very well.
Avoid cheap printers / on sale. The cheaper the printer the higher cost the cartridges will be!!!! If you would like some exact model numbers then I can provide some good examples!!!
Hope this helps!! Apologies for a the long post! :-)0 -
:money:I own a Lexmark X4650, it is the most expensive printer to run ever!! Apparently the Kodak esp printers are pretty cheap to run as the ink carts are half the price of Lexmark and no messing about with syringes of ink etc.I must, I must, get my post average up to 1 a day!!

i have looked at the kadak range , and they are an option i will consider , although i did read in an amazon user review that when you switch them on they go thru a cleaning cycle or something that uses ink , can anyone confirm this is the case or was this just the model i was looking at0

Hi
I want to purchase a new printer that I can use for printing photos (all sizes 4x6 etc) as well as normal documents. I already have a black and white laser printer.
I was hoping to get one for about 50.00 pounds and was looking at the
HP Photosmart C4480 All-in-One A4 Printer priced at 38.99 as it gets good reviews on Amazon or what about the
Epson DX 4450 3 in 1 printer
Can anyone give me recommendations or other good buys etc.
Also will these printers take thick glossy paper. I purchased Tesco Fines Glossy paper 260gsm and it won't feed through the roller on the printer we have at work. I'm not too fussed and paper as I can purchase the thinner stuff if needed.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.0 -
I got an epson DX4450 for my mum and dad and its a great printer and we have been using cheap compatibles with no issues.
I personally have an Epson R265 which is a 6 colour printer and I use a CISS, if you plan on doing a lot of printing or just don't want to worry about the cost a CISS is amazing. When I produce over 60 DVD covers for a a local school the ink hardly drops, even if it did it costs next to nothing to replace.
You do mention printing photos, I would recommend spending a bit more and going for something in the epson photo range r2** r3**.Have my first business premises (+4th business) 01/11/2017
