If people want to argue with the chashier then they have too much time on their hands.0

One thing that annoys the pants off me is when I find people ignore reading the signs and then get all uppity about it.
The card machine in the shop I work at has stopped working completely - it won't even turn on! So the only other methods are cash/cheque or voucher. I stuck a notice to the front door of the store, at eye level, so that it's virtually impossible to not notice it saying that cards were temporarily not being accepted due to the machine not working.
And guess what, I've had umpteen amounts of people complaining that they can't pay by card and seem 'surprised' when I mention it's broken. For god sake, is it really so difficult to read a notice on the door?!
And then i had one woman saying how they'd take their business elsewhere, in that kind of disgusted manner even though when I said to them the replacement won't arrive until Tuesday (given that it broke down a few hours earlier, and that it's a weekend and that we don't keep a stockpile of card machines in our magical cavern called the stockroom I don't think it's unreasonable).
I also had one chap complain that he had to pay for withdrawing cash on his credit card (he didn't have debit card with him and went to get cash, again, funnily enough he didn't see the notice on the door) and that we should be paying his charges etc. Er, hang on a moment, it's not like we're holding a gun to your head and making you buy these items!
To top it off, this old bloke asked if a certain item was here. After looking on the computer, it wasn't in stock, and I was subjected to a rant about how I was lying toerag saying that it wasn't in stock, and how in XYZ branch, they had these etc, rarara.
I really do wonder how some people manage to get out of bed in the mornings.0 -

E.g. the ones who read the special offer signs, don't read what's actually in the offer, and then argue they can't get an item free because they haven't read the smaller print at the bottom and have picked a random item, usually not even from the same shelf."Beautiful young people are accidents of nature, But beautiful old people are works of art."

Now I cannot understand this - if a store wants to make it clear what the offer is, why not have the important part in large bold letters? Or is it because they know customers haven't got time to read every bit of small print (maybe even having to fumble for reading glasses?) and capitalise on this? And very often, it is another similar-but-different- item that is stacked immediately above the sign. Presumably put there in error by staff who have been misled by the sign. :rolleyes:0 -
Or they put the stock thats on offer out on the wrong shelf so the customers pick up the wrong items.0

Or kids whos parents aren't controlling them who like to slide the signs along the shelf. I've seen that happen many times and then we get the blame at the till that the sign was in the wrong place.0 -
i worked in retail for 7 years as staff and floor supervisor and i have a few tips:
the more outlandish the statement from the staff, the more likely it is they have been made to say/do it
if you complain then chances are the correct person to complain to is not on the sales floor, and if they are will be wearing something different to the sales staff, very few chains have managers in uniforms and if they are they will have to wear a name badge stating they are a manager
if you are complaining to a supermarket- write in to the manager, asda for example print the store managers name on the reciept, and post goes to the admin office so usually it will get to the manager
supervisors and assistant managers rarely have much power above the staff
in supermarkets it is typical for a head of department to tell staff on the phone to give the customer what they want to get rid of them if the amount is relatively low.
my personal favourite is if i have worked out a supermarket doesnt sell something, do my clueless male act and ask a manager where the item that is no longer sold is (i can get away with it at some stores as when i go there are very few floor staff lol)things arent the way they were before, you wouldnt even recognise me anymore- not that you knew me back thenMercilessKiller wrote: »BH is my best mate too, its ok

My local Tescos used to have a deputy manager whose name was Richard Head, I could never understand why he never shortened his first name.
It used to be amusing when people walked past him and saw his name badge and realised...0 -
the best one i have had is when a customers debit card was declined and he started to throw his wallet and cards everywhere and blamed me then said what am i going to do now and said it was my fault and this has never happened to him before, he told me to wait till he went out to the cash machine for money and never came back in0
