Second hand Sky+ HD boxes

Hi all,

My dad has a sky+ hd box he is no longer using to receive the hd channels. He cancelled the sports so no longer wanted to pay the £10 for hd channels.

Anyway i have sky+ and have been thinking about upgrading to hd. Is it possible for me to swap boxes with my dad and just call sky to subscribe to the hd mix or do i need to buy a hd box off them too? Also if this is allowed would the install just be me taking the cables out of the back of my box and putting them in the back of my dads or would i need an engineer to put extra cables in or something?

Sorry if these seem like silly questions but i'm really not very technical with the ins and outs of things like this.

If anyone knows the answers or has any other relevant info would appreciate youre help, cheers.

My guess would be that if your dad cancels his HD subscription there should be no problem in you swapping boxes with him and just calling up sky and upgrading your package.

    Hope this helps.

Dont forget your dad can still receive BBC1,C4 and a couple of others in HD even though he's not paying sky the £10 p/m fee.

as was said earlier, u can just swap boxes. You will need to call them to pair your existing viewing card to your dads hd box

As long as you have two satellite feeds already in you existing set up then you will be fine, everything else is standard. If you dont have two feeds from the satellite then you will need to run another one yourself or get a local firm to do it in order to use the recording functionality fully of the new hd box
