Turned on laptop this morning and instead of going to the welcome screen (windows XP home) came up with a box asking for user name and password.
What user name and password??????
I entered my user name and as I do not have password left that blank and hit OK. Saw my background but after a few seconds back to the login box.
Tried one of my kids user name and password, same thing.
Have rebooted several times but unable to login to the laptop.
Any ideas anyone. Please!!!!!

I know not a lot but maybe one of your kids changed something if they are using your computer... I know from bitter experience that it doesn't take much to completely b
up the system..... maybe they made themselves an administrater or something similar
my grandkids know a zillion times more about these things than I do.. :rotfl: even the 7yr old... :A#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

I'm fairly sure it wasn't the kids messing...not the sort of thing they would do......I know, I know, your saying of course it's the sort of things they would do.

When you get to the logon screen, enter:
Username: Administrator
Password: leave blank
Its possible they just changed the logon screen, and deleted the username that was there (administrator)..
Or another user name may be entered but no password

If I do that get a message saying 'Unable to log you on beacause of an account restriction'
I've tried all user names with and without passwords, starts to login but after a few seconds fails.i tHink, therEfore I'vE goT a BLOODY heAdAche0 -

F3lix have you tried safe mode ?? press F8 as laptop is booting - used the "administrator" - account name and password nothing/blank/empty unless you know the admin password is not blank ..
If that does not work - has your laptop a floppy drive ? And can you boot from it ?Rich people save then spend.
Poor people spend then save what's left.0 -
Have tried booting insafe mode.
No floppy drive.i tHink, therEfore I'vE goT a BLOODY heAdAche0
