Prepaid Cash/Travel Card Q

Hi all,

I'm in Vegas in November and whilst out there, my wages will be paid into my bank (Halifax). Some of my holiday spending money that I've accounted for will be coming out of my November wages and as I really don't want to get stung every time I withdraw some money or spend via my Halifax debit card.

I've looked at a prepaid cards and I quite fancy the idea of the FairFX card as I should be able to transfer money from my bank onto the card while I'm out there (hopefully avoiding fees).

So my Q's are:

  • If I were to get the card now and I started loading it immediately, what happens to the money on it if FairFX were to go bust a few weeks later for example?
  • Would I be better off leaving my ££ in the Halifax, and then withdrawing a one-off amount in Vegas and then whacking it in the safe?

Also, if anyone has any better ideas or can point out any negatives with this type of card, it would be much appreciated so please do suggest them as I may be missing the blinding obvious!!

TIA

i have just tried this card ,i put £1000 pounds on it and used it in england to activate it ,it worked fine ,i then went to greece on holiday on my first day i tried to use it with no joy .i then tried several more times even in shops but the card was blocked ,with no money i had to get family to wire me some to carry on with my holiday.when i came home i contacted fair fx and they told me that i input the wrong pin this was impossible as i changed the pin to my normal pin .they told me it was an error and told me i would get a full refund ,they charged me £55 pounds for a card that did not work so be carefull i am now contacting trading standards.sorry for the spelling i am still foaming at the mouth
