Science magazine subscription for 10 + 12 year old

As the title says really.

I'm looking for a magazine subscription for DDs that covers science.

I've found American magazines, and magazines for younger children but nothing for DDs age range.

Has anyone any ideas?

Do you buy any magazines for your children that you think are really good?

I used to subscribe to DK Find Out, but they stopped doing them :( and although I can buy science books, I wanted to get some magazines.

Just to add to this - I was really disappointed with the Kids National Geographic.

As a kid (although about 16) I really loved BBC Wildlife but I really loved biology and nature - but you'd need to get a deal on it as it's expensive.

We've quite a few of the horrible science books, and the kits but they enjoyed the dk magazine each month, so I was hoping to find something.

The Okido magazine looks good, but it's for younger children.

I looked at the kids NG mrcow, but I didn't rate it either.

I have found a chemistry set that I've ordered though, so be prepared for some explosions featured on the news :rotfl:

I've not seen the kids NG so can't comment. I used to get NG & both my nephew (10) & a friends boy of 9 or 10 enjoy looking through old copies. Not so high i science anyway.

I'd second the Focus idea (if it's still available). Athough I think it was geared towards adults I remember it being pretty high on the whizz-bang stuff that kids enjoy & very accessible.

Both National Geographics & ~BBC Wildlife are available as clubcard deals.

I've been a subscriber to New Scientist for years, and both my son and daughter started reading occasional articles in it from about 13-14 - but it would have been a waste of money if we'd bought it just for them. Might be worth considering when they are older though, if they are still interested in science. Maybe there is something useful on the British Science Society's website? http://www.britishscienceassociation.org/web/

Glad to see Focus has been recommended as I used to get this for my son and he ejoyed it.

Why not get a copy from the supermarket (I know they sell it in Tescos) and see what your daughter thinks of it before you commit to a subscription?

My daughter quite enjoyed National Geographic Kids. She is 10, and an Aspie.

I'm no scientist, but I find bits of New Scientist quite readable, if not comprehensible. If they have a good reading age it might be OK.

Have you asked at the local library? They might have subscriptions you could look at to get some idea.
