Car hire - Portugal. Expired points on driving licence

Hope anyone can help - have booked car hire from holidayautos.co.uk for car hire at Faro airport. I have 3 expired points for speeding on my driving licence from 2004 - holidayautos have said I should get my licence exchanged for a clean one - ie, no handwritten endorsments on it. Curious to know if this is necessary as the DVLA charge £20 to exchange it. If I use my current paper licence with the 3 points endorsment on it, is it likely to be a problem at the car hire desk??

    I have 2 expired endorsements on my licence and have hired cars several times in Spain, Portugal, America and Germany and not once has the rental agent queried them.

    I have three long-expired points on my licence - no probs in Portugal or anywhere else - but might be worth checking with someone on the Tripadvisor forum board for Portugal
    Reason for edit? Can spell, can't type!

    Is the issue because they are 'handwritten' rather than printed on the licence?

    I hand my licence over to them folded.....nobody has ever looked at the points page in 10 years !!!!
    But of course there is always a first time

    You will be fine with expired points on your license, As long as your active points dont exceed there limit. Normally for hire comanys this is 6 points for minor offences ie speeding or on mobile phone.

    Endorsment was handwritten, not sure if it is an issue.
