Compaq bios caput?

Well, y'know for what it's worth, I'm sure you can live without accessing the BIOS menu
(which is what's missing, not the whole BIOS... where do you think the compaq logo comes from
) and removing and clearing the CMOS might fool the computer into thinking it's all OK, or even better write them files back on re-boot!
Na, I don't think it will do the latter
But good luck 0 -

You probably don't need a new battery - just take it out for a few moments then put it back in.
well i dont know it has a 98 sticker on it but came with 2000 when given to her
and i know what the eeprom chip looks like:)Back by no demand whatsoever.0 -
Is there a four-digit number on the front of the case?4743hudsonj wrote: »it has a 98 sticker on it0 -
Don't you have to short the pins on an eeprom anyway to reset it? No, no, this is getting too complicated
Just look for the watch battery, or round green battery and remove it for 30 seconds... 0 -
Anyway, If the software you need is going to be anywhere, it's going to be on the FTP site for Compaq ftp://ftp.compaq.com/pub/softpaq/
Once we know your model number, it should be just a case of finding the right utility to replace the missing files from the HDD
...depending on how old your system is though. They may have taken it off.0 -
And if it's newer, we're all barking up the wrong tree anyway.

If you can find a picture of your model through google images, you may also find out the model number. Just a thought.Try saying "I have under-a-pound in my wallet" and listen to people react!0
