thanks alot biglugs! has evryone else had postive experiences? is the screen bright and sharp (the standard one it comes with NOT the ultrasharp one) thanks a million!!!

Well I have it sitting next to my old Sony Trinitron Multiscan 500PS 21" CRT monitor that gives a fantastic picture. The Dell 196FP makes the CRT look dull and washed out. The LCD is brilliant IMO.

    Two things though.

    1. I'm not greatly experienced with TFTs - replacing a 21" Sony CRT with a TFT is an expensive business and it's only recently I've even considered it.

    2. The Sony is a few years old now so it may have lost some of it's original lustre over the years.

Anybody had any luck asking Dell to drop the 'free' printer in exchange for an upgrade to the Ultrasharp version of the 19" tft?

    Hahahaha ROFLMFAO! :p

Anyone seen any pigs flying past recently? You can't even sell the Dell printer on ebay, as nobody wants them... :rotfl::rotfl:
Thanks to all who post constructively.

I didn't even try - it's still sitting in my dining room. I think I'll give it to my sister-in-law to go with the Dimension 3000 I'm passing on to her.

Yes, I tried as well and failed miserably. On the second occasion I didn't even get to ask as I got the hard sell on the windows cd and driver cd - I had to put the phone down as the guy was really annnoying me with his lies.

Have you seen what Dell charge for ink cartridges! I thought Epson cartridges were a rip off but Dell beat them hands down. Dell giving the printers away for free will soon turn a profit, even if only half the people buy cartridges from them. I can see why their sales "consultants" are not allowed to do a deal. I looked on eBay as well and saw one going for about a quid!

I'll have four PCs in the house and 5 monitors when I get mine! Isn't that what networks were made for ;-)
  • Make sure you try playing DVD's or Video's on your TFT's to make sure you don't have the darkness problem!

What problem is that? My E196FP seems to play fine. I have set brightness on the screen to 75% and contrast to 100%. I have the colour settings set to "Normal Preset" - Red 86, Green 87, Blue 81. Then on my graphics card I have set brightness to 90% and gamma to 90%. Seems fine to me when I play games and DVDs.

only got three pcs in the house, seriously considering purchasing this and the laptop offer. Got the normal 5150 but could do with the 19" monitor.

I'm thinking of going for this myself but will have no need for the monitor if you might be interested in it?

Just cancelled my £439 one. Will order the £399 one when I get home as I hope to get 4.5% back from Quidco and 2% from my wife's Amex card.

I tried to get the order changed but they couldn't do it so had no choice but to cancel it.

Any bets on whether there will be a better deal tomorrow? I'll just have to cancel again if there is ;-)
