Have you tried to get a job as a support worker for adults with learning difficulties? They're always looking for people here - some people can't stick at it, but it's really okay. I do relief work and i'm trying for my employers to give me less hours! They've asked me to go to permanant hours, but relief suits me better.

    Jackie,

I would love to work with people who need help. We are seriously considering fostering but obviously its not a decision to be taken lightly.
I think i would be able to work with adults that have learning disabilities. where would I find out more information about this?

you would be better off giving back the landrover, buying a supermini for a grand out of savings, and running this - cheaper petrol, cheaper to insure!

Try and sell LR to a dealer, assuming V5 in hubbies name - they will soon tell you wat kind of finance is on it, if it can't be sold!

    Emmzi,

V5 is in hubbies name. if we go to a garage will they give us money for the LR or will we have to buy a car from them. I know we could try to sell it privately. its only a year old.

If you are really struggling, do you actually NEED cars worth £27,000?

ok, so you just need the finance check - which is why I suggested garage, they will have fast access to details if former business partner is being vague.

I would not panic too much! Your mortgage is less than most peoples rent and you have a fair if not extravagent income.

Visit old style to look at getting groceries to a minimum. Is your garden big enough to grow stuff? I reckon with a bit of 'Tom and Barbara' you will be just fine! Don't panic!

Also for kids stuff, try ebay, you can often get hardly work designer gear for a fraction of the price.
    Debt free 4th April 2007.
New house. Bigger mortgage. MFWB after I have my buffer cash in place.

No but if you bothered to read my posts i did say that I didnt realise that I could sell the main car (which is worth about £26,000 in itself) because it was bought on a bank loan. I thought that worked in the same way as hire purchase!!!!!

Oh and by the way I thanked you by mistake

Will speak to husband more seriously tonight about this. Garden isnt that big, but there is a bit that we could make into a veggie patch. Husband is currently thinking of doing this anyway so will get him to hurry this along.

Is your council tax really £2500 per year on a house only worth about 200k???? It seems extremely high. We pay about £115 per month on a house worth not much less than that. What band is it in?

For council tax benefit you need to contact your council for a form. Even if it turns out Entitled to is wrong, you've nothing to lose by applying. I haven't a clue about tax credits though!

To get the groceries down, have you thought about dropping a brand? ie, if you use heinz try own brand, if you use own brand try value. Most things I can't tell the difference.

I agree about the growing veggies, I live in a council flat and have a tiny raised bed, I've just bought some plants to try and grow things to eat (whether it works is yet to be seen!) and there's always herbs and salad greens you can grow on the window sill. The kids would probably love to get involved in it too.

I agree about ebay for things like clothes. Have you got any old stuff you could sell? Then you can build up a fund for the new stuff, and as it's outgrown sell it and start again.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.

Growing veggies is great. I have a tiny garden but have grow bags full of tomatoes and peppers and a patch of the garden with runner beans. It's great and easy...unless, of course, you have an inherited tortoise which means you have your very own bulldozer!
