alot of packets, jar, cans etc say this product contains x servings. do you find the servings are too small for an adult and just make up your own mind based on what you need/want to eat etc?0

In an ideal world, the servings are probably what we should eat! However, I've 2 teenage boys and either one of them can easily polish off something that says "Serves 2" on the packet!"Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.0

I take a huge amount of notice - it primarily stems from when I was doing WW.
I think a lot of the country's obesity problems arises due to the huge increase in portion sizes - when I was young, the standard bag of crisps was 25g. Now Walkers is 50g or 37.5 - either twice or one and a half times as much as the original serving. Over a year, with, say, 2 packets a week, that's a lot of extra calories.
Yoghurt is another place where I've noticed size inflation - it used to be 100ml/125mls. Next time you have a Muller Light check the portion size... Usually when a portion size seems tiddly it's usually my expectation of what a portion size is that is wrong.
Teenagers are a dietary law unto themselves - one teenager portion would otherwise feed a normal family of four.0 -
On the few occasions I buy pre packed food,I use the rule, serves 1 is a snack, serves 2 is a meal,we are probably just greedy guzzlers, but as said in an ideal world a serving is what we should eatDebt at highest £102k

Overly Ample Food Portions Beguile College Students’ Eyes
This American Research repeated and experiment done 20yrs ago . Using the same range of foodstuffs on an self serve buffet menu they found that the students, when given the choice, chose larger portions that the same age students chose 20 years ago.
Only 45% of the portions selected at breakfast came within 25% of the single-serving size indicated by product nutrition labeling. For lunch and dinner, that figure was even lower-32%.
The only redeeming note was that the portions of some foods students selected in 2003 were smaller than those of 20 years ago, most notably sugar on cereal (6 grams versus eight grams) and salad dressing (16 grams versus 20 grams.
However if you are eating as the 75% of Americans are at least 25% more (than would have happened 20yrs ago) at each and every meal the calorie content will almost inevitably be higher. My weight loss following Doktor Dahlqvist' Dietary Program

Ignore them all the time
I know how much I need to eat, so I eat enough to fill me up without making me over full.Sometimes I notice our portion sizes are increasing, usually when the weather changes or we've been busy. But they are usually roughly the same.M

Hi homersimpson,
We have a very recent thread discussing portion sizes that should interest you. It helps other Old Style readers to see all the replies in one thread so I'll merge your thread with it. Posts are listed in date order, so you'll need to read from the beginning to see all the replies.

Well in answer to the OP of this thread now they have been merged, one way to cut back is serve smaller portions, but allow seconds. It easy to eat everything off your plate, but you have to hungry to go and get more food!!Good luck0

This is a very interesting thread. I find it is very hard to get used to dishing up smaller sizes. It just doesn't look enough but then when you are eating it you feel full up before you finish!
I agree with those who have smaller portions but have a pud. We do this quite often but dont have the pud till an hour or so later so that it doubles as supper and we dont feel the need to tuck into biscuits etc later on.
I am trying to follow the rule of stopping eating when I feel full ! not as easy as it sounds when your meal is delicious:rolleyes:Do what you love :happyhear0
