Using broadband connection for telephone calls

Hi,

Can anyone please tell  me if this is possible - I've disconnected my home phone and still have a mobile would like to use my broadband connection (750k - Telewest) for voice calls.  I've got a wireless home network with a router, I read somewhere this might be needed (but why?!), and already own the headset.

What do I need to do now?  Sign up with a provider?  If so - which one?  Or can I do it for free?  Do I need my telephone still?  Am very confused!

Thanks in advance,

Charlie  ;D
