hello, my partner and i are wondering whether to get a ford focus or ford fiesta (5 door)- we're having our first baby in october and want a car big enough to fit all the paraphenalia that goes with a baby when you're going away for weekends and on holiday (including occasional camping). would be very grateful for any advice from parents on whether fiesta might be too small or not.
thank you !

Go for the car with the most space and most growing room. That would be the Focus. Go for the Max version if you can.0

I'd go with a focus.
A fiesta would be big enough till you decided to go camping, or made a little brother or sister
We had an escort (same size as a focus) when we had DS1 and a rover (of some sort, it was the same size...and red) when DS2 came along (we had a primera before that but it was written off outside the house by a 16 year old who decide to take daddies car for a drive). No problem with space in that size of car with two car seats, a big 3 wheeler pram and even managed to take all the baby stuff on holiday when DS2 was a year old.
In the escort boot we could fit in his pram, baby bag and our asda shopping, so plenty of space. In my husbands fiesta that we had last year, I could just fit in the asda shop but nothing else.
Hope my rambling helped!!! :rotfl:
(I now have an estate which I love like mad, huge space!)0 -
We have a 5 door Fiesta and i wouldn't hesitate to change it for a bigger car if i could. It has been a perfectly reasonable sized car up until now, but we definetly couldn't go on holiday in it. So i would say the Focus with tinted back windows if possible.0

I had a Fiesta after baby #1 and the boot was big enough for a pram, but not much else. It caused a bit of a problem if I wanted to go out for the day (e.g. retail therapy!) and there's no way I could have managed when #2 came along. I'd go with the Focus if I had the choice again.Slimming World convert, joined 23rd April 2009

Another thing is to make sure you get a buggy that folds up small - My best friend has a baby and her bloomin buggy doesn't fit anywhere! I have to borrow my Mum's Mondeo if I take her out, and even then I have to force it in the boot!0

LOL! Pet hate of mine is folk who buy HUGE prams and insist on using buses and can't fold the bloody things down or they can, but it takes 3 or 4 trips to get it on the bus!0 -
I love my 5 door 52 Reg Fiesta, and probably couldn't drive a Focus...!
However, I recently went away for a few days with DS. The pram went into the front footwell of the passenger seat, leaning against the headrest, and had the seatbelt attached to keep it secure in case of a crash.
The travel cot went into the boot with half of the back seat down - again seat belt strapped through handle. I barely got enough clothes, toys, etc for the pair of us in the remaining space. The IVF worked;DS born 2006.0 -
Just a different suggestion....if a fiesta suits you space-wise for day-to-day life why not just get the fiesta, and the just hire a car when you want to go away for the weekend (you can hire a focus for £15-20 per day easily) ...as then you could save yourself £1000s by spending less on a the car upfront (and benefit from cheaper insurance and petrol costs going forward by using a fiesta instead of a focus).0

Hiya!
I had a fiesta but a few months after daughter was born we decided to go for a focus because we felt like we needed a bigger boot (pram fit in but not alot else!) but when we changed the car seat over we found it to be a struggle to get in as the seatbelts in the back of the fiesta were longer than in the focus so if you've already got your car seat then I'd recommend trying it out in the focus before buying one.
Just to add...I loved my wee fiesta, it was a lovely car to drive but I'm not so keen on the focus!!Started PADdin' 13/04/09 paid £7486.66 - CC free 02/11/10

we have a focus and have always managed we now expecting no. 2 and wondering do we need bigger now.
following on from what angelicmary said i have managed to get focus seatbelt round a graco and maxi cosi cabriofix infant seat and a britax firstclass with no problems
my mum has a fiesta and i do find the boot is narrower making it harder to get even my umbrella fold pushchair in and when i had larger graco travle system it filled whole fiesta boot.twins on board0
