Used Saturday Service Recorded Delivery to post an item..

Posted yesterday afternoon - should have arrived TODAY as they said it would be guaranteed if I pay £7.15, yet it HAS NOT ARRIVED.

Monday is no use as they were tickets for a sporting event required ON MONDAY morning!

Where do I stand as the receipient will now how to delay his travel plans and is likely to miss most of the event as its a 300 mile journey!

It does look like OP meant special as a letter up to 100g would cost £4.95 plus an additional £2.20 for Saturday delivery.

What does the tracking say, was a delivery even attempted?

There is an outside chance that the item will be available at the buyers sorting office 1st thing monday (mine opens at 7am) but I would still want to check what exactly has gone wrong here.

As the item failed to arrive (and assuming no delivery was attempted), then you are entitled to the cost of postage back.

If you purchased consequential loss insurance too, then you could possibly claim for the value of the tickets presuming they are worthless after the event.

If the item is declared lost by Royal Mail (as opposed to delayed) then you shouldn't need consequential loss insurance to claim the value of the tickets (up to £500 unless additional protection purchased).

We have received your item and expect to deliver it before the guaranteed time on 15/06/09.
To check on your item’s progress, please try again later.

Now the item was sent on the 12th - to arrived guaranteed for the 13th.

Why would I need extra insurance to claim back the cost of the event tickets?

They wont arrive in time - the seller will now MISS the event. Not my fault. Not his fault.

    Its the Royal Mail's fault.

Just because Royal Mail say we need EXTRA insurance - doesnt make it right by law.

Can we pursue this further? (small claims etc / CAB)

You can only claim back the cost of postage unless you took out consequential loss insurance. As others have said.

How do RM know there were concert tickets in the parcel? That is what the CLI is there for.

It's not the buyers fault, but he might be able to claim back through paypal for item not as described or something.

You will only get back the postage cost nor matter how far you take it. Unless they are lost.

This looks like the PO using the wrong service and I would certainly be making a huge complaint. If you had wanted a weekday delivery then you would have paid for it. You paid for a Saturday delivery and you have not got it, phone up today and make a fuss.

Was it a business address? Special Delivery for Saturday is the same as the Monday one but they put a yellow sticker on the package but business addresses are a problem due to locked compounds etc.

No - it wasnt a business address.

It was a residential address - he stayed in all days waiting.

He's posted back the envelope to me - its got a big yellow 'SG' sticket on it!

And he has posted the tickets back to me! £130's worth.

I'm confused? Who is he? Did you check with sorting office?
