Ok so DD's shelled all the peas for tea tonight and asked in true OS style...."What are you going to make with the pods....you can't just throw them away - we never throw anything away".....
But what can I do with them????
Answers on a postcard......or on here if you're fussy......

I'd second elona, make stock for soup! ( Brilliantly trained DD, Pooky! Trouble is you can't now just secrete them in the bin:rotfl: )You never get a second chance to make a first impression.0

We must not, in trying to think about how we can make a big difference, ignore the small daily differences we can make which, over time, add up to big differences that we often cannot foresee.

LOL that's right, I remember - "Pea Pod Burgundy"!:D0 -
Went to a PYO Farm this morning and have lots of delicious fresh peas and broad beans. The pods are so lovely & fresh so I don't want to consign them to the compost heap. Does anybody have any tried and tested recipes for using them up in cooking? . We have ham & chicken stock in the freezer. Thanks.0

I made a peapod soup once -a wartime recipe. It is from Margeurite Patten's We'll Eat Again.
Put the pods into a large saucepan with some sprigs of mint, some onion and a large potato. Cover with water (use your chicken or ham stock and the flavour will be better). Bring to the boil and simmer until the pods are tender. Rub the pods through a sieve and return the lot to a the pan. You can thicken with cornflour if you wish.
As it isn't the war I'd be inclined to add some cream;)
I think the same recipe could be made with broad bean pods too.
Another idea is to just boil them up with a carrot and an onion for veg stock.0 -

I remember my parents making some when I was younger. It was very very dry from what I remember of it.
You can make wine from pretty much anything..My Dad used artichoke as well, plums, damsons, strawberries. I saw an old recipe for !!!! Wine which involved putting a chicken carcass in with the mixture. Needless to say, they naver made any of that!0
