RBS cold calling
Comments
-
The responses on this thread remind me somewhat of the Barclays Personal Reserve thread.
Most posters seem to find it perfectly proper for these financial institutions to opt people into various products and schemes without any sort of permission sought.
When people complain, they are dismissed with the argument that they can always opt out: opt out, that is, of something they didn't opt into in the first place!
This tactic is unethical and immoral and leads some people into a tempation they would otherwise have avoided: the precise reason financil institutions follow this dubious practice!0 -
I agree with the OP.
There should be an Opt-In to marketing calls etc rather than Opt-out.
In fact I'm sure that on applying for financial products in the past I have seen on the form - "We may contact you with details of other products we think may interest you. If you don't want us to contact you tick this box".
I always tick the box.
Although not illegal to cold call and ask customers if they want to borrow more money, - Yes it is definitely unethical, - and it should be illegal.
If I want to borrow more money I will ask, and that is the way it should be.0 -

I always tick the box.
And that box exists with bank accounts as well. However, if you have been with the bank a long time, then it may well be that you pre-date those tick boxes.
There is an easy solution here. Ask the bank to be opted out of marketing.

I endorse your comments Andystriker.
How big was the box? Small enough to miss is my guess!
Not as big as it would have been if you had needed to tick it in order for the brigands to contact you, I venture to suggest!0
