I didn't realise that. So even if we sell stuff at a car boot sale - if it is brand new then I have to declare it as an income?0

Okay, its my account. Well played and yes I do feel like a dumb !!!!. However, we really aren't a business. My other half has been made redundant, we plan on doing some car boot stalls and have brought some bits to sell to make a bit of extra cash so I'm sure I'm not doing anything illegal in ebay's eyes. Sorry if I have crossed a line posting on here...as you can see from my ebay profile, I've been a member of ebay for a few years now but really only buy things so you can see I'm not a business from that.
You might find this of interest re taxable income:

Also on a positive note look for something more profitable to sell, jewellery is not a good seller any more there is too much throw away stuff available in places like Primark for less than a £1 and you can't compete.
Check out the Amazon thread on this board for instance and also on the debt free wannabee board there is a thread called ebay/ebid 10 a day challenge that you might find useful as well.
Also this post for new sellers

Yes, and you would even have to declare second hand goods if you bought those to sell on. There is many a trader doing a very good business buying from charity shops and reselling, there are some on the ebay/ebid thread I mentioned above.
If you are selling your own personal unwanted items though that would not be taxable.
Personally I would rejig your ebay auction immediately, no doubt it has been reported several times already and you need to get it sorted ebfore ebay close it down.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Hope you are paying tax on selling things for profit, lets hope inland revenue chase people like you on tax avoidance
Tempted to report this to ebay seeing as you done naff all about your spam, well I wait and see with baited breathe, mean time reported the spam0 -
What can I do about my post? Do you mean delete it? Also, I'd like to add we haven't actually sold anything. Now I know that we have to declare anything we sell (if we have brought it to sell on) then thats what we will be doing once we start making any money from it. Please don't judge me. My partner used to have a really good job paying well, we have a mortgage and definately aren't spongers. We have a family and I thought we could make a bit of "pocket money" so we have a bit extra until my partner or I find a job. I am asking for help and advice and I apologise if my original post was crappy.0

Thanks Soolin for your advice about changing my ebay listing but I have just gone on there to edit it and you can't change the description. Do you know how I can do it?0

You can edit your OP to get rid of the directions on how to find your listings. My TV is broken!

Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -

Okay done. Does anyone know how to edit an ebay listing description? It shouldn't be a problem should it, providing we are declaring any income made the necklaces to the tax office...is that right? Do I have to re-register with ebay as a business?
I honestly didn't think it would be a risk at all to sell on stuff via ebay and make a bit of money.0 -
Thanks for editing it out0
