TC don't need proof of the baby because they cross check with the Child Benefit Office and you do have to send the birth certificate to them when you add them to your claim.

TCO are also correct in not discussing the claim with the OP's dad but that doesn't mean they didn't take note of what he told them.
Also it would have been enough for the OP's dad to send the envelopes back marked "Not known at this address"

I didnt have to send the birth cert off when i added baby to my claim, i even asked if I'd have to send it off and was told 'No'.

I am the OP, Dad didn't want to discuss the claim as there was nothing to discuss and not once was my Dad told that they would make a note or do anything about it. Also I've already said that he was going to (has today) post the letters back with not at this address on them.

You send the birth certificate to child benefit - child tax credit just look on the child benefit system to check that it has been seen

I didn't have to send birth certificates to the child benefit people-I had to send a form that was given to me when I registered his birth. That was 7 years ago though-has the system changed now?

Oh i know you have to send the birth cert off to child benefit (already done that a fortnight go), i thought the other poster meant you had to send it off to TC.

My TC were sorted out before I'd sent the cert off to child benefit though so they couldn't have checked then.

You send the form with the birth cert. My older 2 are 13 and 11 and I had to do the same back then.

Tax credits advisors have a specific call process & set of guidance to deal with calls from people who have received mail intended for someone else. It seems the advisor you spoke to was either unaware of this, or too lazy, or thought you actually wanted to discuss details of the claims of the people the letters are addressed to.

Call back & hopefully you will get a better advisor.

I forgot to say in my last post, the advisor will take note of information in the letters/forms in the envelope (if you want to open it) ie. reference numbers, the department it has come from, the purpose of the letters/forms etc and send this information to a specialist team to investigate why the mail has been delivered to you.
