4 transactions each pushing me further in:

    £38
    £39
    £80
    £0.35 (Yes- thirty five pence!)

And they won't give me anything back- even spoke to a supervisor

FD charged me for their first directory (effectively packaged account) on the day our remortgage went through which would have meant getting 13 charges in the year rather than 12 (because of the monthly date for the charges and the remortgage date).

One secure message and they waived the previous 2 charges - although that wasn't what i had asked for - i had just asked for confirmation that i wouldn't get 13 charges for the year

They have had some occassions when i have had mixed messages from them- esp when getting my sole current account converted to a joint account before the remortgage - probably had 4 different answers from 4 people...but overall i have found them pretty good

FD are good, and they make it clear when you join that they expect the account to be managed properly or they can be expensive. I've always held them in high regard, and because they're strict, it helps me budget. I don't want to go O/D afterall! They send me a text msg if my account reaches £50 so I know if funds are getting low, so I can either top up or not spend. Easy.
If you will the end, you must will the means.

Do they still pay £100 if you leave after 6 months? If they do, why not leave and get the £100 citing this as the reason. You never know, they might decide they want to keep you as a customer after all!

Also, although they are entitled to make these charges, I would have thought that knowing as they do that when people move accounts there are often errors in the transfer process, they could make an exception. After all, reading stories like this is likely to reduce the likelihood of anyone changing banks to First Direct.

If you asked the question in the form "would you be prepared to receive £10 a week less to have your wages paid in cash (to cover your employer's security company charges)?" then the answers would be most interesting.

Your analogy is somewhat spurious and misses the point I was making.
Merely making the point that if people manage their money they can get an awful lot out of the banks without having to pay for it.

If you say so. Who am I to argue. :D
It depends how you choose to use the facilities offered.

Your point is taken. I personalised that part of my post and I shouldn't have.
