Direct Debit Indemnity - what do I need?

Anyone ever claimed one?

Vodafone say to get a refund of the cash they took that wasn't theirs I need to claim one of these.

Phoned HBOS and been told I need to go into any branch to do it.

Do I need to take anything with me?

No, just go to the branch in person.

I had an account with Halifax many years ago and had to do an indemity claim. They credited me the money back there and then and they chased it up with the recipient.

Visited the branch and the boy pretty much refused to do it. Asked why I wanted and then told me I need to go back and get a name, address and phone number for someone at Vodafone who will authorise this

Oh dear you have been well and truely fobbed of matey.

All you need to do is to go in to the branch and advise its been incorrectly taken and tell to refund it immediately under the direct debit gurantee, under no circumstances take no for an answer and make sure they know that you what your talking about.

Banks try and wriggle of things if you let them
    For everthing else there's mastercard.
    For clampers there's Barclaycard.

In this case I think it's more likely the staff member simply didn't have a clue what they were talking about.

The advice provided by Basford and agsnu is exactly right.

To clarify, you are asking them to claim back the funds under the Direct Debit Guarantee Scheme(the bank do the indemnity so it's nothing to do with you asking them to do it). The DD Guarantee scheme is in the post above.

Whilst I am in full agreement that the bank should refund under the D/D indemnity scheme is it not an absolute disgrace that Vodafone are using the system like this.
It is their error in taking the payment why cannot they do the refund themselves?

Is it a Vodaphone error or card fraud?

Vodaphone transactions are favourites of the fraudsters.

While that may very well be the case, when dealing with poorly trained bank staff you should probably be careful to use the exact correct terminology, otherwise you might find they get confused.
