Still worrying about renewal and wondering ?

When I first applied in 2007, I got my acknowledgement letter and a second letter the very next day saying they were writing to my GP because they needed more information. This was in spite of me including a full GP letter in with my original application.
This time, on renewal, I have included the same - obviously a new letter/report from my GP, but this time I have not had a letter in (yet) saying they are going to write to her.
Could this mean they will just accept what she says this time without writing again as they wrote 2 years ago, and she's put in my report that I sent that I had not improved and was unlikely ever to improve. Do they write the first time only to GP's etc, or do they write each and every time ?
It's 3 weeks now and counting ...... *sigh*

    Anyone ????
  • Hello ladybelle,

I have just copied this for you from Thanatos's explanation of the DLA procedure.

I would also advise you send in any medical evidence you have with your claim (photocopy everything too!) as this can speed your claim up by weeks. Certain cases (those with Higher rate mobility Component and Middle or higher Care component) must undergo what we call "Initial Scrutiny" e.g we have no choice but to go for medical evidence under management instruction. This takes at least 2 weeks for a GP, or considerably longer for hospitals. We do not get charged for Hospital reports so are encouraged to try hospitals before GP's. A simple letter from the hospital can make a massive difference to the speed of your claim. Obvioulsy these are not the only cases we go for medical evidence, some times we simply require confirmation a condition has got worse (or better) or things do not add up etc so always include any evidence you have.

If you have not yet received an initial acknowledgement of the receipt of your forms, I would just give the DWP a phone call, just to check they are there ok, and you could also ask, if further information has been requested.
From the above quote, if you are in receipt of HRM or MRC/HRC, then this request for further information is more about procedure.

Satisfy yourself that the forms are there, and try and out it out of your mind for a couple of weeks.

    Regards
    Munchie

Thanks Munchie but I do already have my acknowledgement letter but I have not had a letter to say that they are writing to my GP which is what I had last time. I did send my GP letter in with my forms in 2007 when I first applied and did again now. But last time in Nov 2007 they sent my acknowledgement letter and then within a day they sent a letter saying they were writing to my GP, even though I had included a written report with my application form.
I have done the exact same this time and as yet, they have not sent a letter to say they are writing to my GP so had wondered whether they write every time to a GP, even on renewal when my condition has not changed ?
I'm only on LRM and only hope to have that renewed, so cant see why they need to write again as they did write in 2007 and I have included a new report from her as I did then, but I can see the sense in writing to a GP for the first claim, but as it is a renewal I had wondered if they were not going to, as I have not had a letter in to say they are going to ?
  • From past experience its unusual to receive the "writing to gp" letter so soon, its always taken 6 weeks or so,the whole process is still taking an average of 12 weeks for new and renewal claims.

Thank you, well as this is only my second claim I can only compare my first application to this, but from this wonderful board I know how long they are supposed to be taking now.
Every day I hold my breath as the post comes in, looking for that brown envelope :(

Did you get a second letter saying they were writing to the GP ? Well done on your renewal. How long an award did you get ?

I received 2.5 weeks before a letter saying they are writing to my consultant. This time the reward is until Feb 2011.
