I'm looking at a cheap digital camcorder - some good prices but what do people think ? Are they bargains ? What would an extra £50 to the price of the most expensive one buy elsewhere ?

    Thoughts please !
  • shame these don't have DV in.

We bought the VP-D230 before Xmas on special offer at £160 brand new.

It's not a bad piece of kit for the money, my partner uses it for work and she seems happy enough too.

I have the hi-8 one, its about 4 years old now, but works well, and at that price I would have been very pleased.
Always on the hunt for a bargain

shame these don't have DV in.

Why? So long as there's a DV out you can put it onto a computer, edit, then burn to DVD.
    Nice to save.

Quite a lot of people us DV in so that they can store their edited footage back to DV tape.
DVD-R's lose their data integrety after a couple of years & you could end up unable to play them all together.

It will have DV in but will not be activated you can buy a gizmo to activate it cant remember the name of the gadget it now but read about it a few years back, they deactivate DV In as you have to pay more tax on it as its classed as video recorder or something along those lines some dodgy EU rule anyway
  • One of the cheapest camcorders with DV-out* has just been reduced for the second time in as many weeks:-
